Bahl Patio Homes in Sunnyvale-- Modern Homes from the 1960s
Neighborhood: Yukon Drive
Sunnyvale, CA 94087
United States of America
Have you ever wondered about the unusual angular homes around Sunnyvale like the ones off Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road in the Yukon Drive area? This neighborhood--in the late 1960's--was the epitome of ultra-modern. The houses here are called Bahl Patio Homes, known for their distinct design of flat-top garages, and sharply angled roofs. The floor plan was intended to allow the interior of the home, and exterior patio, to flow seamlessly. Two of the ways this was accomplished was incorporating large glass windows, and a foundation on level with the patio.

The Mardesich Family, who farmed apricots on the property on Yukon Drive, originally owned this subdivision, off Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road. The Bahl Homes were early examples of modern planned unit developments. Today there are several neighborhoods in Sunnyvale with these award winning architecturally designed homes. Like Sunnyvale's Eichler Homes, Bahl Patio Homes have a distinct and dedicated following.
