Bake a Birthday Cake for Jesus

A Fun Way for Children to Learn the Meaning of Christmas

RK
Christmas is an exciting time of year for children. They are filled with anticipation of Santa coming and bringing them presents. Christmas trees and decorations entice their senses. Christmas is a fun time of year. It may even be your child's favorite time of year. With all of the excitement, it is easy for the real meaning of Christmas to be forgotten.

Maybe you discuss the meaning of Christmas with your children. Maybe you have your children watch movies about Jesus. And maybe you worry that with all you do, your children are pre-occupied with Santa. Parents are you looking for a fun way to remind your kids about the real meaning of Christmas? Make a birthday cake for Jesus.

Let your children help you make the cake. They will have fun and feel good about themselves for doing something nice for Jesus. Use the time baking with your children to discuss that Christmas is Jesus' birthday. Discuss with them, who Jesus is and what He has done for us. Keep the experience fun. Encourage your kids to ask questions? Singing along to Christian Christmas songs is another fun thing you can do with the kids while you bake the birthday cake.

Decorating the birthday cake can be another fun opportunity to teach your children. Decorate the cake with manger figures. The manger scene on the cake will provide a fun opportunity to discuss Jesus with your children.

Children love birthdays. When they realize that Christmas is Jesus' birthday, they will be filled with excitement. After Christmas dinner, light the candles on the birthday cake and sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. This is a great way to remind children of the true meaning of Christmas.

Kids learn well through fun activities. They also learn well through participation. Baking a cake and singing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus allows the kids to participate in a fun way. The meaning of Christmas will be brought to their attention.

Young children often have short attention spans and get bored very easily. A birthday cake for Jesus teaches children about Jesus without losing their attention. Since they are having fun, they will remember and look forward to celebrating Jesus' birthday. When Christmas time comes around, they will still think about Santa and presents, but they will also think about Jesus and celebrating His birthday.

Children enjoy making a cake for Jesus and singing "Happy Birthday" to Him. Make this a yearly family Christmas tradition. Your children will look forward to it.

Great idea...but why not bake the cake in September on His REAL birthday...then there is no conflict with the consumerism at all...and kids get introduced to all of the wonder of the Festival of Trumpets. Our family still celebrates Christmas as a "warm family tradition of gift giving and honoring each other" but we celebrate Christ's birth in September...and it's a blast!

This is a great idea. We did this with some friends when our kids were little.

Great article. My kids are caught up in the getting presents. That is my fault. This article helps me to take a re-focused approach to help my kids understand the true meaning of Christmas.

Love it! When my kids were younger, we did have birthday parties for Jesus. What a wonderful outreach and opportunity to share with neighbors and little friends (and their parents) how Jesus took on flesh and came to earth to give us the Greatest Gift of All! I love to tell the story, using a lovely wrapped gift. The gift is free, but each person has to accept the gift and unwrap it! We have to believe the gift is for us! Happy birthday, Jesus.

Maybe my pastor will suggest this to the little ones at Mass; it's a cute idea and really brings the true meaning of the holiday into focus. Parents often pass down to the their children the wrong messages about Christmas and call it a holiday rather than a holy day. Good job!
