Women of all ages spend large amounts of money on all sorts of beauty products. But next time you're out of your favorite moisturizer or teeth whitener, don't run to the store- simply reach into your refrigerator for a box of baking powder! Read on to learn about 12 simple, easy beauty recipes that work wonders.
1. Soothing bath: To unwind and relax, add 1/2 cup of baking soda to your bath water. Baking soda is often a main ingredient in bath salts, and like bath salts it will leave your skin as smooth and soft as silk.
2. Invigorating scrub: refresh and smooth the rough skin of your hands, elbows and knees with a paste of three parts baking soda and one part water. Rub this thick paste in a circular motion over the desired area to smooth away the roughness. This can also be used to exfoliate the face.
3. Foot care: Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda and a tablespoon of table salt into a basin of hot water. Soak your feet for a quarter of an hour to remove all of the grime and dirt. Afterwards, gently scrub your feet with the mixture mentioned in #2.
4. Brush and comb cleaner: Use baking soda to clean combs and brushes of hair product and oil residues. Fill a bowl with water, and then add a tablespoon or two of baking soda. Soak the combs and brushes for a few minutes, then rinse them and allow them to air-dry. The buildup will have dissolved in the solution. The same solution can also be applied to toothbrushes to clean them.
5. Nail care: Apply baking soda to your cuticle brush and gently scrub your nails and cuticles. This will soften your cuticles and clean your nails, making them look fantastic.
6. Oily hair: If your hair is oily yet you don't have time to take a shower, sprinkle one part baking soda and one part talcum powder or baby powder onto your hairbrush. You can also add a drop of essential oil if you like. Run your hairbrush through your hair to absorb the excess oil.
7. Shampoo: Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder to your shampoo, and then use your shampoo as you normally do. This will remove hair product residue, making your hair shinier, cleaner, and more manageable.
8. Teeth Whitening: Sprinkle baking soda on your toothbrush, and then scrub away. Rinse out with water afterwards. This will whiten your teeth and also acts as a mouthwash.
9. Sunburn: If you suffer from sunburn pain, apply a paste of baking soda and water to cool and soothe the sunburned area. Be careful, however, not to scrub.
10. Insect bites: For any kind of insect bite, apply a bit of baking soda over the bite to quicken the healing process.
Next time you need to clean your nails, fix your hair quickly, or heal your sunburn, look no further than the box of baking soda in your refrigerator. It will save you time and money, and make you look and feel great.
