Baking soda is good for more than just baking. This cheap, white powder is great for a variety of household cleaning and deodorizing needs. Baking soda can easily replace several of your more expensive household cleaning supplies, saving you money and saving you time. Plus, baking soda is a terrific, natural and gentle alternative to toxic, harsh chemical cleansers. Here are seven easy ways to use baking soda to clean and freshen your house.

1. Use Baking Soda to Clean Clothes: Baking soda can freshen your clothes without leaving it with a scent like commercial laundry fresheners. All it takes is a cup of baking soda emptied into your washing machine's water. Let your clothes soak in it overnight, or at least for three hours. After soaking, wash your laundry with your regular detergent. When your laundry is done, the baking soda soak will have zapped and neutralized any odors in your clothes. Baking soda will even remove chemical smells like chlorine!

2. Use Baking Soda to Deodorize Stinky Pet Smells: Did Rover stink up your living room? Use baking soda to neutralize and freshen smelly pet smells, including stink dog or stink cat smells. Just grab a box of baking soda and sprinkle it wherever there is a dog odor or cat odor. It also helps neutralize the strong smell of cat and dog urine (just sprinkle it onto the urine and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping clean).
