College is a great time; it really is regardless of the difficulty of the course work. The weeks are tough, and the weekends are one big party. Yes this is what college has come to be for good or worse. As a college student I have come to like this life. I have noticed however that some of my fellow students have not learned how to balance academics with partying. This is especially true with freshmen who come in with the perception that college is just one big party that you pay thirty grand a year for.
The true is that college is not a big party. Yes there will be some great parties, some great times, but you need to know how to balance it. If you want to go out every night, then you better have studied for 3 hours that day and have all your homework done. I have yet to meet someone who can do that. Most of the people who do that do it at the expense of their exam grades.
The best strategy to take would be to study and do homework five days a week, and enjoy yourself the other two. When I say the other two, I am referring to Friday and Saturday night. If you decide to party in the middle of the week you will probably end up sleeping through your lectures. I have learned that professors love to mention things several times in lectures that will be on the exam. If you're not there you will miss that valuable information. Be smart about when you go out. If you're behind on homework, or you have some big exams coming up the next week, don't go out. Mom and dad won't understand if they are paying thirty grand a year for you to get Ds.
So as you have probably noticed from this article, I'm not at all against going out and partying on the weekends in college. In fact I would encourage you to give it a try. However just be smart about it, and put your academics first. That should be why you are going to college anyway.
