Balancing Family and Work: You Can Do It

Gregory Todd
Being a parent and having a career is a complicated duo. There are many issues to consider. Many are struggling coordinating both responsibilities. You will face some hard times, but it can be done.

It all comes to the matter that we have to learn to use our time wisely. Many of us have this guilty feeling about not spending enough time to the relationship with our family when we do the things we need to do for our career. Or we feel guilty towards our boss because we are distracted by the needs of our family and we are afraid we might lose our job. If that is like the short story of your daily worries, keep on reading.

To cope with problems like this it is a good idea to reserve some family-only or work-only time. Certain hours should just be for work related activity. Do overtime if your boss asks you to and if in any way you can put it into your schedule. It could potentially prevent you from losing your job. If mom's money plays an important role in the family budget the thought of the possibility that mom loses her job can be very frightening. Try to leave work issues at work. Do not take it home. When you are home you should put all your attention to issues related to your family, put your family first.

Certain time is scheduled as work only and certain time is family time only. Try to be a little flexible both ways but you need at least some kind of schedule. Schedule some of your time for family activities like trips to the zoo or visiting relatives. You are more likely to actually do thing if it is part of your schedule. Your spouse and kids will appreciate that you stick to what is planned.

Being a mother is not limited to doing things with your kids. Motherhood is a lot more than that. Take the full serving of motherhood. Activities like grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning are all listed under motherhood. For some paid help is the solution to reducing stress and opening up time for your family. Some need a full time housekeeper and for others some yard help will do the trick and open up time you can use to do things with your family.

Only some issues on devoting time to family and career are addressed here. Even if it all seems to be very overwhelming right now because you just had an addition to your family or started a new job, combining a career and a family and keep everybody happy is doable and can be very fulfilling.
