Balancing Your Throat Chakra with Essential Oil

Chakra Series - Part 5

Tameko Barnette
Using our voices can be very difficult at times. Many people are not confrontational or even willing to stand up for themselves verbally. I used to be one of those people. The throat chakra isn't about not being able to talk at all; it is the chakra that governs our ability to express ourselves verbally, which isn't always easy.

Communication of any kind is how every entity interacts with one another - from human to human, from water to flower, from leaf to tree, from wind to earth. The voice that yearns to say something, but can't say anything is the voice many of us have within.

Communication comes in handy for every aspect of life. If you're going to a job interview, you need to be able to express yourself during that interview to impress the company. If you're going to be a teacher some day after graduating college, you need to be able to talk to the children or adults you're going to teach in a large classroom so they can hear and understand you. If you're at a family gathering or hanging out with friends, you need to be able to come out of your shell and laugh and talk with everyone.

One of the things I've realized in my own communications with people over the years is that I do not want people walking away confused after talking with me. I want them to know what I'm talking about, even if they don't agree with me. Agreement on content of conversation is the last thing on my mind; understanding of the words that came from my mouth is of the greatest importance to me.

Quite often, I have noticed with myself and in observation of others in conversation that when trying to be a part of a group discussion some times it's hard to articulate ourselves. Everyone else seem to be flowing in the conversation just fine and then we try to interject something and everyone keeps talking as if they didn't hear us trying to make a point.

Therefore, balancing the throat chakra will help with clear communication, not just verbally but in all aspects. One of the things we must do is speak with authority. It is difficult to do at times, but keeping a balanced throat chakra will help us with that issue.

Your throat chakra is also associated with the thyroid glands as well, so if you're having an issue with your thyroid being either inactive or overactive, this may be an indication that you need to work on your throat chakra a bit.

Try the following aromatherapy visualization for clearing and balancing your throat chakra. You will need lavender oil, which has a very lovely floral scent that is also good for relaxation. This is perhaps how the lavender oil helps with the throat chakra...by relaxing you. When we're relaxed we're most confident and can more than likely carry on a good conversation without feeling awkward in any way.

Visualize your throat chakra which is right at the center of your throat. Your chakra is round. The word chakra means 'wheel' in Sanskrit. Your chakras turn like wheels all the time. See your throat chakra which is associated with the colors light blue or turquoise spinning in its own color. It is bright and sparkling like a turquoise diamond. It is spinning in a clockwise motion at steady pace, not too fast and not too slow. As you hold this wonderful image in your mind, take one drop of lavender oil into the palm of one of your hands. Rub both hands together and hold your hands about 2-3 inches from your face. While continuing to hold the image of your spinning throat chakra in your mind, inhale the lavender scent into your whole being.

Feel your throat chakra as cleared and balanced. Open yourself up and communicate creatively and assertively whether it's orally or written. Be your true self.
