Bald Eagle Watch Tours at Kentucky State Parks

This winter, as North American Bald Eagles fly south for the season, four Kentucky State Parks are offering guided eagle watch tours as part of an eagle watch weekend program devoted to the education, conservation and observation of this elusive and majestic bird. The eagle watch weekends offer a variety of programming including sessions with expert speakers, guided tours, refreshments and other scheduled activities. The guided tours, which are naturally the highlight of the weekend, are offered aboard a yacht or boat or by passenger van and provide the participants an opportunity to view our national symbol up close in its natural habitat.

At this resort park in south central Kentucky, eagle watch tours take place on open barges or pontoon boats and are hosted by the US Army Corp of Engineers. Participants are required to provide their own USCG approved life jacket and should dress to protect from the cold, potentially wet or snowy outdoor environment. Included in the weekend's programming is a hike to Eagles Point overlook.

Eagle Watch Weekends are hosted by the Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park January 15-16, January 22-23, and February 5-6 for the 2010 season. Pre-registration is required. Lodging can be booked inside the park at the Mary Ray Oaken Lodge.

Located near the Land Between the Lakes area in western Kentucky, the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park offers guided eagle watch tours by yacht or passenger van. Yacht tours provide a climate controlled indoor viewing deck as well as an outdoor viewing deck. Van tours visit the waterfowl management area and are hosted by a wildlife biologist.

An eagle watch weekend at the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park is scheduled for January 15-17, 2010. Pre-registration is required. Lodging can be booked inside the park at the Village Inn Lodge, the Village Green Inn, or at one of 68 cottages.

At this western Kentucky resort, eagle watch tours are offered via yacht or passenger van. The yacht tour provides both a climate controlled indoor deck as well as an outdoor viewing deck. A short hike to a viewing area is offered during the van tour.

The Kenlake State Resort Park is hosting an eagle watch weekend February 5-7, 2010. Pre-registration is required. Lodging can be booked inside the park at the Kenlake Lodge or at one of the park's cottages.

An eagle watch weekend is scheduled at the Lake Barkley State Resort Park January 29-31, 2010. Pre-registration is required. Lodging can be arranged inside the park at the Lake Barkley Lodge, the Little River Lodge, or at one of nine cottages or four log cabins.
