Pollard, who wasn't even suited up for the game, made his suggestion during a timeout. This kind of comment is not normal for Pollard, who is known for being very involved in the community and especially with children. After being questioned about his remark, Pollard said, "It was a bad joke."
The NBA and the Cleveland Cavaliers were both not happy about what Pollard had to say. Details are not known about the punishment that Pollard received either from his team or the NBA.
Pollard, who has only played in 17 games this season, is not a contributing factor to the Cavaliers. He is only averaging 0.7 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.
Many people were offended by Pollards antics. The NBA is geared towards being a form of family entertainment and the stars of the league are the role models of millions of young kids. Millions of children wear the jerseys of their favorite players and the league wants the reputations of these players to be clean. What would kids think when they saw an NBA player saying, "Do drugs."
More than likely, Pollard honestly did not mean what he said. It was a joke that should only be said around adults and he just did not think before he spoke. He was very apologetic about his remark and he probably will not make the mistake again.
The NBA is very concerned about the image that it portrays, especially to kids and parents. This certainly didn't help that image in any way.
