Is your little girl wanting to have a ballerina party for her birthday? That will be precious. She'll be especially thrilled when she sees the party supplies, balloons, cake, and other goodies. Her eyes will nearly pop out of her head, though, when she sees what you've done with the party table. If you can sew a little bit you can make the most adorable tutu skirt for the table. What better way to decorate for a ballerina birthday party?
When you use tulle fabric you'll find that making the table tutu is really simple. Tulle is a netting-type material that's available in fabulous colors, like pink, lavender, blue, or white. Choose the color you want for the birthday party table and you can quickly sew it to fit. The tulle needs no hemming so the birthday table will be ready in a short time.
Purchase tulle by the yard so that you'll have one long, continuous piece. To decide how much yardage you'll need, measure around the table, and double that measurement. In addition to the tulle you'll need a length of quarter-inch elastic, long enough to go around the table.
To elasticize the tutu, begin by laying the elastic close to one long side of the tulle. Fold the tulle over the elastic and begin sewing with a straight stitch. As you do, slightly pull the elastic to gather the fabric. Sew from one end to the other and stop with the end of the elastic reaching the end of the tulle.
Place the two ends together and sew them to create one big circle of the tulle. Slide the tutu onto the table and check the length. If needed, just trim a few inches from the length but don't bother to hem it. It might be necessary to use pieces of double-sided tape in order to hold the tutu to the table.
There are various things you can do to make the tutu look even more spectacular. Instead of giving it a straight edge along the bottom, you can make a tattered edge. And you can give the frilly tutu more sparkle by attaching tiny rhinestones. The rhinestones can be applied using hot glue or fabric glue.
The finished tutu table is so inviting and perfect for a young girl's birthday party. When I made one for my granddaughter it was one of her favorite parts of the whole party. Your daughter or granddaughter will feel the same way.
