Baltimore Blue Society Presents Alonzo's Memorial Labor Day Picnic

Cara Lauren
Labor Day is for picnics, so why not attend one of the best Baltimore has to offer? Each yeah the Baltimore Blue Society (BBS) holds its annual Alonzo's Memorial Labor Day Picnic. It began as Alonzo Bennett's, the founding member of BBS, backyard picnic and has now grown into a neighborhood picnic all are invited to which benefits the BBS Katrina Disaster Relief Fund.

Though the picnic itself grew changed, one thing didn't -Bennett always had the best local, regional and national blues talents at his Labor Day picnic. Unfortunately Bennett has pasted on, but in his memory a Labor Day weekend filled with the best blues music continues!

On Sunday, September 2nd the Annual Baltimore Blues Society Labor Day Picnic will take place on the grounds of the Rosedale American Legion Hall, the perfect place for a picnic and an afternoon filled with music. And just in case of rain, the Rosedale American Legion Hall offers indoor accommodations. Your $30 ticket will not only give you access to some of the blues greats, but it will also help those still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina. The gate opens at 1pm, and the music plays until 9pm.

Featured artists include Sean Costello, The Buicks, and Robin Rogers - read on to find out more about these incredible artists!

About the artists:

Sean Costello

At 25 he may not have the experience that some of the great has, but he sure does have the right sound. Costello's fresh and bright music is always a crowd pleaser. Costello's latest album has a mixture of soul, funk, and upbeat rock. His different take on blues is refreshing. What sets Costello apart is that he doesn't "show off", he lets the band and the song do the talking, rather than throw in too many unnecessary notes. He is sure to be an afternoon delight!

The Buicks

For over 20 years the Buicks have brought the sounds of the blues to the east coast blues, and any blues fan on the east coast will tell you the are one of the best! The have amazing original material and perform the classics wonderfully. The 6-piece band is such to thrill the audience (and probably have most of the dancing!)

Robin Rogers

She sings the blues, but not just with her voice, with every single part of her body she sings, and it is unlike anything you have heard before. Her voice moves through your body and it is an experience you will not forget. Her stage presence is amazing, and with her husband, Tony Rogers, on guitar, and a collection of other great backups, she is guaranteed to be great!
