The Washington Post described a Baby Loves Disco event as a play date with beer that mixes "Bud Light and ba-bas, sequined halter tops and Huggies". If you or someone you know has a toddler and thought your clubbing days are over, Baby Loves Disco offers a variety of kids activities and fun for the whole family coming soon to Ram's Head Live in Baltimore. Next events scheduled are May 10 & June 14, 2008 from 1-4 pm.
Baby Loves Disco Does Baltimore
So what goes down at one of these events? Reporter Scott Butki from Newsvine last covered a Baby Loves Disco event in February where over 750 people attended when you count the babies, all without any paid advertising, essentially promoted by word-of-mouth. His article "Baby Loves Disco Does Baltimore, Makes Reporter Smile For Hours" also includes a photo essay with cute photos of the event. His recommendation? "If Baby Loves Disco comes near you, go check it out". April's event at the Ram's Head sold-out as well.
Afternoon Dance Party
Baby Loves Disco transforms some of the hippest night clubs across the country including the Ram's Head Live in Baltimore into child proof discos allowing family fun kids activities with the mash-up of a fun, social event that adults can enjoy too. For the past few years, Baby Loves Disco has been organizing parties across the U.S. spinning classic disco tunes from the 70s and dance hits from the 80s to get people of all ages grooving.

"The fun spills out from all corners of the club: bubble machines, baskets of scarves and egg-shakers, a chill-out room with tents, books and puzzles, diaper changing stations, a full spread of healthy snacks and dancing, LOTS of dancing." Adds Baby Loves Disco co-partner and father Andy Hurwitz, "It's more than just something to do for the kids, Baby Loves Disco is fun for parents, we get the chance to mingle with other parents, dance with our kids and have an afternoon cocktail to boot."
How Safe Is Baby Loves Disco For Kids?
At the heart of the operation is professional dancer and mom Heather Murphy Monteith & father and music guy Andy Hurwitz so it's an event created by parents for parents to enjoy family fun kids activities. Says Murphy, "We're parents, we're always looking for something new and different to do with the kids" and Baby Loves Disco goes out of its way to ensure venues chosen are safe and clean and kid-proofs clubs with safety items like outlet covers. Baby Loves Disco tries to keep the music volume down to a safe 80 decibels and whenever possible, the food table has nutritious, organic food choices.
Moms Just Want to Have Fun
Monteith describes Baby Loves Disco as an urban experiment and chronicles how the idea came about on a blog post on Fertile Ground. Baby chic meets Mommy cool foregoing complacency into a dull lifestyle. There is clearly a sense of humor about the whole thing and it is exuded in the fun website and hip rock 'n roll posters customized for each event. Included among the FAQs "Question - What if my husband is afraid to dance in public? Answer - There will be plenty of little kids that will think he's the best dancer in the world."
Who Can Attend?
Baby Loves Disco plans family fun kids activities in Baltimore and across the U.S. with kids 6 months to 7 years old in mind. Everyone else is welcome to attend older sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, parents, grand parents. Tickets all cost the same price. Admission tickets are required for each adult and children but no charge for children who don't yet walk.
Baby Loves Disco Baltimore Popular Family Fun Kids Activities Sold Out
