Ban President from Smoking - Sign Petition

Protect America's President

Ranee Wright
The government passed H.R. 1256: Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act and in September 2009 the FDA banned flavored cigarettes; making their sale or distribution illegal in the US. The basis for the bill: Protecting America's kids from smoking. This ban is just the beginning of many future bans to come like ordering cigarettes online. Phillip Morris is behind that bill too.

Obama happily signed this bill to protect the kids. Purportedly flavored cigarettes are a 'gateway' smoke. Everyone knows that is simply not true. Flavored cigarettes (like my beloved clove) were only available at specialty tobacco shops to begin with. Teens will still begin smoking Marlboros and Camels, especially Menthols. The ban the President supported to keep teens from smoking will have no impact on them. Smokers of flavored cigarettes are only going to search for an alternative and maybe 2% will quit because of the ban.

Protect America's President

Exercising my first amendment rights to petition, I propose a new bill: Protecting America's President from Smoking. The President is so worried about the health of America yet he continues to smoke? I think we should give back! What better way to do your part as a citizen than protect your President by banning him from smoking.

The cigarette of choice that Obama smokes (Menthol) is also a popular teen choice yet it was not part of the flavored cigarette ban. Last I checked Menthol was a 'flavor' - it's called Mint.

Ban President from Smoking

Obama I voted for you and supported you. I am sad to say, "You are a hypocrite." Let me jump on that wagon! I am worried for the President's health. Everyone knows smoking kills. As the leader of the country, we want to protect our President.

We pay for the Secret Service to protect America's President yet he is allowed to smoke? The President and his family enjoy the best food made from the best chefs to keep the President healthy yet he is not prohibited from smoking? Join me in making it illegal for America's President to smoke.

Consider me signed! I smoke Vanilla Sweet Dreams - not all the time but I do enjoy them on the weekends or after a stressful day. I am soo angry my right to enjoy them was taken away. These are also very difficult to find online! Anyone know where I can purchase these online? mellie_melani@yahoo.com

I have found out that when something is "banned" you have to look no further than lobbyists and big corporations to see why. Good story - our governmnet seems to be in the business of protecting us from ourselves.

I am a fan of the President, but I completely agree with you here. He is supposed to be setting an example, yet he still smokes. However, he could just be highlihting how weak we all are, himself included, which is also not a bad thing. But from a health viewpoint - cut out the cigarettes please Mr President!

Very interesting subject -- Obama really should quit smoking, for his own health and to set an example to others.

Laws aren't passed because someone wants the laws to stop themselves from doing something - they're trying to impose their will on the rest of us. Sometimes for our own good, and in the best interest of humanity. But when it comes to what we do with our bodies, our minds, etc. ... well, enforcing your will upon another's so that they are left with no choices is a form of slavery. No "flaming" connotation intended, just going by basic semantics. In other words, you've gotten me to ramble - great article, very provoking topic.
