Banana Nut Cheerios Review: Banana Goodness

Cassie B. Adonoson
Having been disappointed by the last Cheerios cereal I tried, I was hesitant to try the new flavor: Banana Nut Cheerios. After all, it sounds good, but it also sounds like it could go horribly awry. However, when my local grocery store had a sale, I figured it was worth a shot.

I can say they are pretty good. Better than the frosted Cheerios by far. I'm a big fan of the Original and Honey Nut flavors, but I could easily get used to this flavor as well.

The box states that the Cheerios are flavored with natural banana flavor, which I found intriguing.

I started out by just eating a handful straight from the box. I eat a lot of cereal dry, so it's important that the cereal taste good dry.

The Cheerios were good, but had a strong banana flavor. I don't think that I would eat many when they were dry. This is a negative in my book because I don't usually bring milk to work, and that's where I eat my breakfast.

However, I decided to give it a go with milk, and that made all of the difference. Paired with milk, the cereal has just the right amount of banana flavor. It's strong enough so you don't think you are eating just plain Cheerios, but not too much that it's overbearing.

They are enjoyable plain, but they are much better with fruit added. I added some cut up strawberries, which made a nice strawberry-banana mix. I didn't try it with kiwi, but I imagine that would be enjoyable as well. If there is a way to add chocolate, I'd try it. Chocolate and banana often go really well together, so I imagine it would be a nice mix with these Cheerios.

As far as I saw, they did not sell them in a large box, like they do with Original and Honey Nut Cheerios. That being said, $4.15 for such a small box was a little steep for me, which is why I waited until they went on sale. That's just the price in my area, so it might be different in different areas.

All in all, I would say the Banana Nut Cheerios were worth the price I paid for them. I would purchase them again, and I am looking forward to eating the rest of the box. With milk of course.
