Bank Job Emerges from Field of Mediocre Spring Movies

The movie film, "The Bank Job" was not a film that I had expected coming into the theater. Initially, I had wanted to see this film because I like pictures featuring Jason Stratham in action movies such as "Transporter," and from the previews that I had watched, I saw that "Bank Job" could be a similar type of movie and involve a lot of action. I've also seen past robbery-heist movies like "Italian Job" and I enjoyed those movies as well. So having said all that, "Bank Job" is not your typical heist-robbery action movie.

For one thing, the backdrop and suspense leading up to the film is rather interesting. Instead of the suspense of the film leading up to a climax featuring a bank robbery, the bank robbery occurs early in the film without much suspense. The bank robbery actually creates the suspense by unraveling a blackmail plot against royal officials of the British government. It is Jason Stratham and his companions who unknowingly stumble upon sexual photographs of the British officials and who then are running for their lives.

In the twisting and turning plot of the film, there are two different villains after these common bank robbers: crooked cops and MI5 officials who are trying to protect the crown's reputation. It is up to Stratham to find a way to sort out the situation as his companions get picked off one by one and start talking to people about the robbery after being tortured.

The interesting storyline focuses on a man known as Jamal X, who has blackmailed photos of these government officials. When Stratham is presented with the opportunity of robbing a bank by digging underground tunnels from a rented out store near the bank, Stratham seizes on the opportunity, unbeknownst to him that the secret mission of the robbery is retrieve these blackmail photos from the safe deposit boxes in the bank.

Much of the rest of the film focuses on Stratham's action in trying to earn a better life for his wife, while trying to salvage his marriage and avoid being killed.

The film "Bank Job" is certainly not the best action film but its uniqueness with its twists and turns and riveting storyline does make it for an entertaining film. There is a lot of action and Stratham makes good on being the leading actor in the film. Stratham shows a deep level of character portrayal in the film and shows that he can be the leading man in a film.
