Banning Pitbulls

Hundreds of Pitbulls Are Being Euthanized on the Account of People's Actions

Here we go again! It's always something else that is at fault. It's the people that make the mistake of not training this breed correctly, which then results in hostility, and now we just want to ban the breed all together. People never stop to think about all the good scenarios pit bulls are currently in with families and children and only focus on the bad situations with this particular breed. You never see on the news great stories about great pit bulls and their owners. You only hear the bad. I honestly feel sorry for this breed and we should be approaching the real problem at hand. I can't believe this breed is being euthenized with merely a blink of an eye for it's history. It's the peoples fault so wake up!

I personally have been a owner of a pit bull terrier. He was the gentlest dog I have ever had and he was a guppy around kids. Kids were his favorite thing I'm pretty sure and he couldn't get enough of them. When are people going to understand that this breed is not for just anyone and it needs intense training or there can be deadly consequences. But guess what, this is with ANY breed of dog. Another thing to point out is a lot of the so called pit bull attacks aren't pit bulls. It is very easy to confuse other breeds with a pit bull. I once took a test and had fifty dog pictures set out in front of me and I was supposed to point out the only actual pit bull out of all fifty dogs.

I couldn't do it and I'm a pit bull owner! It took me six tries to finally get the right pit bull. A lot of people don't even really know what a pit bull looks like. They associate a dog with a square head, square snout, and well defined muscles as a pit, but a lot of times they are wrong. Also, there are so many forms and mixed breeds of pits you can't blame strictly the pit breed anymore. I currently have a boxer and you wouldn't believe how many people have mistaken her for a pit bull. And I'm thinking are you kidding me! Boxer, pit bull are way two different things and with my trained eye I know there are huge differences, but to someone else they are one in the same.

Another thing people do not do, which is vital, is to make sure their pit is securely contained for it's safety and others. If you can't take on this responsibly then don't get one. Pit bulls will die protecting their home and family at any costs and if they feel threatened they may attack even though the particular person isn't a real threat. But how is the freaking dog supposed to know that? It's his instinct and he doesn't know he is doing anything wrong,he just wants to protect. After all, that is one of the original reasons for developing this breed is to be a great guard dog and to protect. Unfortunately, people distorted this breed with dog fighting and still are to this day.

Once again, it's the people! We in reality are the dangerous ones and cause more deaths and chaos in a year than any living animal and if it were up to me I would be picking people up off the street and euthenizing them. The pit is a dog, not a human and he can't think like us. But we know better and we still do horrible, disastrous things to ourselves and other people. That is why it is up to us to set an example and raise this dog properly. If you think you are not capable then don't take on this breed at hand and set a good example for other people who have considered getting this dog but really aren't for sure in the back of their minds. This breed is a strong willed and strong minded dog and requires a person with the same personality to take charge,be a leader and to let the dog know that the person is in charge and they are the leader of the pack.

On one more note, all those dogs they obtained from Michael Vick are going to be put down because of his actions. How is this fair? He should have to spend his money and we all know he is good for, and develop some kind of "save the pit foundation" so all those dogs do not have to die.

I agree, this isn't the dogs fualt, I do blame people who raise them like this, I am in grade eight and im writing a speach on banning of pitbulls, I hope you don't mind if I use your opinion in it, I'll say who it was from.. I think people should know the truth, and for the dogs that attack like this, it isn't only pitbulls, theres other dogs that do it and no one takes notice on that they mainly look at pitbulls and some times roties.
