Banning Smoking in Public Areas

Smoking needs to be banned in public places. I'm surprised that smoking hasn't been banned in public places already. Second hand smokers suffer a lot more than smokers since they don't have any filters to prevent them from inhaling toxic chemicals produced by carcinogens. Medical evidence has proven that second hand smoke is not only fetal, but it even hinders growth and development in children. Many people are allergic to the smoke and seriously bothered by the smell. Most people also don't enjoy having their clothes and hair smell bad just because somebody was smoking around them.

We live in a free world, but that doesn't mean that we have to be the victims of people who have a deadly habit. Nobody should have the right to ruin the health of others, and this includes smokers. Just because people choose to continue smoking, it doesn't mean that non-smokers have to breathe toxic air. Smokers need to respect the desires of non-smokers to keep their health unharmed.

The only reason that cigarettes still sell well is because the tobacco and cigarette companies want to make money. It's ridiculous to even think that cigarette companies care about the health of smokers or non-smokers. The reality is that they're greedy, selfish people who only care about themselves. They know that smoking is deadly but they only care about their profits.

As adults, we need to set good examples for our children. When they see people smoking in public areas, they're most likely going to think that it's cool and mature. There's nothing cool or mature about killing yourself over a selfish and unnecessary habit. With all the information we have today on the hazards of smoking, we need to give our kids the message that they should never smoke. Our children also deserve to live in a world full of trees and fresh oxygen. Can you imagine how many trees must be cut down a year to make the paper for cigarettes?

Banning smoking in public may even benefit smokers since it could encourage them to quit for good. The only people quitting will hurt is the tobacco companies, but they need to be put out of business anyway. Non-smokers have the right to go out and enjoy themselves without having to put their health at risk. Although many teens are still pressured to smoke, even kids now a day know that smoking is bad for you. Smoking isn't seen as cool or glamorous anymore, so why should it still be allowed in public places?
