Baptism Gifts for a Baby

Janet Trieschman
Baptism is a joyous occasion, one that is shared with friends and family members. Baptism is a religious event. It typically means bringing a gift for the baby if you are invited to a celebration. Baptism gifts for a baby are not often easy to know what to purchase. Spiritual or inspirational gifts would be appropriate as Baptism gifts for a baby. The following ideas would be appropriate for christening gifts as well. A few religious inspired gift ideas would be:

Baby's first bible
This is a very nice gift idea. However, you need to know the family well to know what version of the bible they prefer. Having a bible embossed with the child's full name and Baptism date would be a special touch.

A gold cross
A cross that is simple and plain would be a beautiful item to be worn for the day and then saved for the future. Make sure you get a child sized cross and chain.

Documentation of the date
You can find a variety of ideas for documenting the date with a certificate being engraved, or a plaque being designed.

Donations
You may want to consider making a donation in the child's name. It could be the church or an orphanage. The family might have a favorite charity. There are a lot of religious organizations that would be appropriate. One that serves children or delivers bibles to third world countries would be sensitive ideas worthy of donations in the name of the child.

Personalized gifts
Engraving a photo frame with information about the date and the child's full name. A photo album the parents could use to remember the day's events with. You could have it engraved or embossed with the date and child's name.

Less personal
Baptism gifts for a baby could be in the form of a gift certificate or bond for college. If the child being baptized is an infant, there isn't any item the child will truly care about. Some form of a monetary gift is always acceptable especially if you don't know the family that well.

Non-event related gifts
You can always go with a baby specific gift. A toy or rattle. Something age appropriate. Maybe look to a specialized toy store for a toy that is a little more special or unique. Something handmade, wooden or educational could be an appropriate gift.

Non-traditional ideas
Talk to the parents before the event. See if there is something that you could do for them to make the day special. You could offer to handle photography or video taping for them if you are talented in that area. Offer to pick up family members who are visiting for the special event. Possibly offer to serve food or make food if they are celebrating afterwards with an open house or meal. Find out what might be of help or a burden you could take off their hands. These would be the ultimate Baptism gifts for a baby, well actually for the family.
