Baptismal Hymn

For Baptism by Water from Above; Including Infants ("covenant Baptism" to Some)

Andrew Lohr
Baptismal hymn

By Andrew Lohr. Let all use freely. The Bible references are for reference and study, of course; don't try to sing them as part of the song.
Tune of "Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah" (a paraphrase from Psalm 148) works fine; author/composer William J. Kirkpatrick died in 1921 A.D., so I presume his copyright has expired. (Old Trinity Hymnal #105; Songs of Faith and Praise #3).

1) In the name of God the Father
In the name of God the Son
In the name of God the Holy Ghost
For the triune Name is one

In the great name of Jehovah
Father Son and Holy Ghost

Mt 28
We are baptized as God's children

I Jn 3
As by covenant his host.

Chorus:
Let us praises give Jehovah

Ps 148
For his name alone is high
And his glory is exalted
And his glory is exalted
And his glory is exalted
Far above the earth and sky.

2) Noah's ark was saved above the flood

I Peter 3
But the earth was drowned below
The Red Sea made way for Israel

I Cor 10
But immersed proud Pharaoh.
Baptized like the Jews and Noah's clan
Into covenant with God
We are called to walk in Jesus' steps
By the sprinkling of His blood.

Heb 12

Chorus

3) Jesus, pour your Holy Spirit out

Acts 2
Let all men to you be drawn

Jn 12
Give us victories over Satan

Rom 16
Let Hell's gates be overcome

Mt 16
And when washed we stand before You
And you say to us, "Well done"

Mt 25
We will praise you Father, Holy Ghost

Rev 4-5, 7
And your Christ, your conquering Son.

Chorus

Duane Spencer's little book HOLY BAPTISM, recommended by theologian James B. Jordan, puts the same position in a couple hundred pages.
