Barack Obama, the Community Organizer Vs John McCain the Aged, Prisoner of War

Americans feel guilty and grateful for John McCain's service as a Lieutenant Commander in the Vietnam war where he was held in captivity; tortured and beaten for 5 ½ years. Media pundits, psychologists, psychiatrists, or religious leaders have not had the courage to call a spade a spade for fear of being branded as unpatriotic and unappreciative of John McCain's service to the U.S. Military, but being captured and tortured for 5 ½ years does not only leave physical scars but cognitive, psychological and emotional wounds as well.

There have been brief reports that mention John McCain's hot temper and angry outbursts. Department of Defense psychiatrist Dr. (Lt. Col.) Elspeth Cameron Ritchie says, hyper vigilance is a feeling of being anxious or on edge all the time. Other symptoms could include difficulty concentrating, insomnia, unable to express one's self, occupational incapacitation, paranoid reactions and aggression. When these symptoms become chronic that is when it is considered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It is noted that the prison guards stopped John McCain's suicide attempt-not his escape and rescue attempt. McCain is revered for turning down an early release that did not include the other prisoner of wars. I know some people view this behavior as heroic, but it really is unfortunate because politically and emotionally he had no choice. He would have been viewed as an elitist coward by the men left behind.

My hero is Harriette Tubman because after she escaped from slavery she came back to lead 300 slaves to freedom. If I had been brave enough to escape slavery I know that I would not have been brave enough to come back and rescue others. I would have told horror stories about my travels through the Underground Railroad through sips of booze and puffs of smoke, while shaking and crying. Some sources state that the distinction between POW and slave is not always clear. If John McCain is viewed as a hero for being captured for 5 ½ years, African Americans should be heralded as heroes as well for being enslaved for over 200 years--both sacrifices benefited America. Instead African Americans are perceived as being inferior for allowing themselves to be oppressed, raped and enslaved-which leads to my next point.

Unfortunately, many white Americans were educated, socialized and conditioned to believe that African Americans are inferior and sub-humans. In fact, to justify slavery and the mistreatment of Africans they stated that Africans were only 2/3 human beings in the United States Constitution. To enslave, dominate and oppress another innocent human being would make the perpetuator evil and non-human himself; therefore in order to feel good about himself and justify his behavior-- it was crucial to claim that the victims lacked humanity.

I need to call a spade a spade, so please forgive me. I see so many extremely poor white people who are supporting John McCain for reasons such as they heard that Obama is Muslim, one person said that she heard that Obama stole a speech from Martin Luther King, Jr. But I know why some poor white people can not bring themselves to vote for Obama, (even thought they will never, ever admit this is their soul) they can't vote for Obama because they have been told that they are superior to African Americans and to see a successful, African American in our nation's top leadership position makes them feel even more inadequate.

Barack's success makes racist white people question their own self-worth, self-esteem and status as human beings in American society. Barack Obama's rise to power reminds them of their own failures, given that they are supposed to be innately superior and more intelligent than Blacks. The term "white-trash" was coined and invented by white people for white people. Their saving grace has always been that it is more valuable and respected to be white trash than black cash.

I have encountered poor white people without health insurance, jobs shipped overseas, and struggling to make ends meet; but they would much rather suffer economically and claim racial superiority because of the color of their skin than vote in their own best interest. If Obama wins the presidential election poor prejudiced whites will no longer have reasons or excuses to hold on to their racist beliefs and attitudes about African Americans as being inferior human beings.

They will be psychologically forced to rise to the occasion and see all human beings as equally valuable. I can understand why wealthy people in general vote Republican because it is in their best interest to conserve their wealth and resources. Wealthy republicans are not worried about health insurance for their families or earning minimum wage; they are worried about not being required to pay for health insurance for their employees or paying them more than minimum wage.

Why does the media accuse Barack Obama of being an elitist and not John McCain even though McCain is worth $40 million to Obama's newly acquired $1 million? Because Obama is perceived as not being worthy of his success, they want him to know that when all is said and done that he is still merely a black man in America.

I love the way Pat Buchanan refers to Senator Obama as the community organizer stripping away all of his educational, professional, and political accomplishments. This is an honorable title that Senator Obama should be proud of. According to Wikapedia a community organizer is "a values based process where people are brought together to act in the interest of their communities and the common good. It is a strategy that revitalizes communities and allows the individuals to participate and incite social change. It empowers the people directly involved and impacted by the issues being addressed...A career as a community organizer can be a great option for people who want to make a difference, are concerned about social inequities, and are interested in community solutions and empowering people.

This is not an election between Democrats or Republicans; this is an election between the evolved and the un-evolved, the status quo and those who want a better America.
