Barack Obama Insults the French

Another Day, Another Diplomatic Incident

Mark Whittington
Another day, another diplomatic incident caused by the Obama administration. France is the latest ally to be insulted by President Obama. It seems that President Obama, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro, sent a letter to the President of France.

The problem is that the letter was addressed to the former President of France, Jacques Chirac, and not to the actual President of France, Nicholas Sarkozy. The story is translated from French, courtesy of Monsters and Critics:

"US President Barack Obama has indirectly praised former French president Jacques Chirac's fierce opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq, the online edition of the daily Le Figaro reported on Thursday.

"In a letter described by Chirac as 'very nice,' Obama wrote, 'I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world.'

"The use of the word 'peace' was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed as senator."

The mind boggles. First, the Obama administration insults the British by giving the British Prime Minister a tacky set of DVDs as a state gift that don't even work in British DVD players. Now the Obama administration is sending love notes to a former President of France as if he were the actual President of France, leaving the actual President of France steaming.

Observers of the world scene are scratching their heads. Is President Obama really that clueless? Or is there something sinister going on in that perhaps these snubs and insults of allied heads of governments are deliberate. While President Obama is sending the leaders of Old Europe into a tizzy, he is actually making overtures to an avowed enemy of civilization, the Islamic Republic of Iran. That is the opposite of sound, diplomatic practice, even coming from someone who claimed that he was ushering in an era of "smart diplomacy."

These diplomatic missteps have already made President Obama, once the object of adulation throughout the world, something of a joke. Noting that the Australian Prime Minister is due to visit the White House soon, Australian writer John Birmingham is soliciting suggestions for gifts the two might exchange in the spirit of Obama's new smart diplomacy. One does not think that President Obama would give the Australian Prime Minister a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse, but one certainly cannot be sure giving recent history.

This makes one yearn for the days when the Cowboy from Crawford was in power. Say what you will about George W. Bush, but he knows how to give an appropriate state gift and knows who the actual President of France is. The same obviously cannot be said for his successor, who is said to be far more intelligent and sophisticated.

An other article that proved that bashing Obama is not an easy job. Falsifying information is kind of pathetic.

Mocking Bush and his famous ignorance was much easier...

Looks like there is no insult to the French here, but just a tribute to Chirac by Obama who is well aware that he is not President anymore.

Distorting the truth never served any cause!

Everything you write about Obama is slanted and twisted. If someone wants to know about politics, Mark is not the man to read. He is trying to write as much negative stuff about him as he can. I cant believe AC lets you continue.

The stunning lack of respect for our allies combined with a bizarre casualness that is disrespectful of the office of President have laid bare the inexperienced arrogance of Obama. We need our allies. But Obama treats them as if they are beneath him. He is, after all, better than everyone else, and his condescending tone implies that we only need to be sheep and follow him. The problem is, we will be more like lemmings. If someone criticizes him, he cuts them off at the knees. He is childish and painfully mean spirited. Want to compare him to Bush- well, here's one- all those liberals screamed that Bush was a druggie with no proof, but Obama ADMITS he used cocaine, among other things. But not a word was spoken. Somehow being a liberal druggie is acceptable. Good luck with this snob who thinks he can do whatever he wants without criticism. At some point, the media will turn on him.

I hope he fails big time. If he doesn't then we'll be just like Venezuela, Cuba, China, and Russia all rolled into one.

I,ve seen you make way more stumbles that Obama....The only people who have given up on Obama are the people like you who were never with him to start with....You come on here to work against him...and work against your country...if your leader fails, your country fails, if your country fails you fail...Keep up the dumb agenda.....I wont let you fail yourself.....

The CSM story does put a new perspective on this. However it all goes to show that the meme of Obama the stumblebum has replaced Obama the Messiah.
