Obama clinched the election from Senator John McCain by a large margin of the Electoral vote.
This is groundbreaking for America and reactions nationwide are varied.
In my opinion this could either be a good thing if everyone unites or a bad thing if people resort to racism and violence, only the future can tell what will happen but either way it's going to be a bumpy ride.
Sen. John McCain's last speech late Tuesday night to the Arizona people was heartfelt and sweet, encouraging fans and Republicans to not let the election bother them but instead try to continue to work together for the further bettering of America.
My relatives who are all staunch Republicans are disgusted by the results and all firmly believe that America is now going to go downhill. But for me personally I'm going to give Obama a chance, he is one of the most charismatic man i've ever seen and I think there is a chance he can pull this country out of the downward spiral.
I just pray and hope that unlike a lot of other "Presidents of the People" he doesn't end up riddled with bullets as I am sure there are a whole lot of people that would love to see him dead. All I can say is he better have some pretty damn good security.
All in all if you're an Obama supporter get out there and celebrate the future change of the country, and if you're a McCain supporter you can either sit around and mope or embrace the change and put in the effort to make your part of the country a better place!
(Exerpts of Obamas winning speech)
"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there"
"It's been a long time coming. But tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America."
"All of those watching tonight from beyond our shores, in the parliament and in the palaces, those huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of the world, our stories are singular but our destiny is shared."
"A new dawn of American leadership is at hand."
"To those who would tear the world down, we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security, we support you."
"We have proved that the true strength of our nation comes not from the scale of our wealth but from the power of our ideals - opportunity, democracy, liberty and hope."
