Barack Obama - More Than Just Race

Liz Brown
A recent interview on "Meet the Press" Mr. Obama announced he was considering running in the 2008 presidential election, but for now is focusing on the mid-term elections. Even though Mr. Obama has not even announced his decision for running in 2008, people are already attacking his stance on abortion, asking his religious affiliations, and wanting to know his race. These issues, while still highly controversial, do not give a true reflection of Barack Obama and his political position. Here are some of the Barack Obama's positions on political issues.

Social Security.
Opposes privatization of Social Security.

Prescription Drugs
Supports efforts to get prescriptions in Canada, while assisting in programs which allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug costs.

Food Assistance
Opposed President Bush's proposal to cut food supports.

Crime
Co-sponsor of Combat Meth Act which provides more money for combating methamphetamines including providing money for children on meth abusers.

Co-sponsor of Dru's Law which created a nationwide database for sex offenders and requires greater monitoring of sex offenders upon release from prison.

Co-sponsor of Violence Against Women Act which provided more funding for law enforcement to combat violence against women.

Homeland Security
Voted in favor of distributing Homeland Security funds to cities and states most threatened by terrorist attacks.

Immigration
Voted in favor the immigration reform bill President Bush supports. Barack Obama added amendments including a requirement the job be offered at a prevailing wage to Americans before it is offered to a guest worker.

These are only a few of Barack Obama's position on political issues, but give more of a reflction than simply his race and pro-choice stance.

Barack may not be a righteous man, but at least he's an honest one...you can't say that for Bush and all of his cronies. Its either him or Hillary and if its Hillary this nation is doomed. AND YES, IT'S BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN! Get over it insecure self-victimising feminists. Women should never be in direct authority of a man...not because the woman isn't capable...but because its seriously harmful to the man. What man take orders from his mother as if he was a child? If you find one tell him to hire a therapist because he will have more than a few thousand screws loose. God created man to be in authority of woman...for protection and for steadfastness. Disagree all you want but nothing changes true reality.

I'd like to read " His Bible " on his comments of Christ.

Obama is charismatic, educated, and well-spoken. Pres. Bush is two of those - he suffers under the ridicule of ignorants who see only his failure as a public speaker (and his Southern draw). These statements combine to elicit a possible picture of the Presidency in 2008-2012. I disagree with Barack's total alignment with the Liberals - in speech, and indeed in some legislation, he would seem more moderate. If the man could show me which he is, and truly take a stance on abortion ("pro-choice" is a euphemism for "I don't really want to give my personal opinion because I'll lose even more votes...") - though, if running as a Democrat, he'd almost have to go pro-death, which automatically loses my vote. Unless, he found a way to pull a Lieberman...

Let's not start the name calling. Barack Obama is the only person even thinking about running in '08 who has the leadership qualities that this country needs. We need a leader in the White House, not a career politician. We need someone who has values 365 days a year, not just 60 days before a midterm or general election. Obama will be the next President of the United States

He still is a slave if he supports the democrat party, because they would love to promote a hypenated term like the liberals would instead of American. How about half African-American?

The man is half black. I guess he is of the half black race?
