Barack Obama Takes in Virgin Islands on Vacation

Should He Be There?

Matt A. Maxx
News stories are flying about Barack Obama being seen in St. Thomas, of the US Virgin Islands. Some of these stories are slanted to insinuate that Barack Obama maybe shouldn't have spent Easter with his wife and daughters as a family, somewhere quiet?

According to The New York Times, here's what happened. A young girl was walking with her parents on the beach after an Easter egg hunt. She had her photo taken with Barack Obama, and her parents sent it to Fox news, according to a New York Times story.

After that, the story was announced to the public, and everybody is speculating on why Barack Obama took his family somewhere quiet to spend Easter together.

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, a climate very similar to the Virgin Islands. If I were him planning a quiet weekend vacation for my family, I may have gone to a beach similar to that of my youth, too. All good parents want their children to have memorable holidays filled with family traditions and a feeling of love.

The campaign trail for Barack Obama has had some stressful pitfalls lately, but these shouldn't be confused with a father spending quality time with his family on a holiday. No, I do not believe that Barack Obama was running away from his church scandal; holidays are private times for all candidates.

I believe that the only thing that we can fault Barack Obama for on his family vacation decision is the fact that he did not tell the gossip mongers where he was going before he got there. But, if he had told us where he was taking his family for the holiday, that family would not have had any peace while trying to give the children a special day.

My radio has been full of Obama bashing lately; and this is a shame. People are trying so hard to find every little wrong imaginable to blow way out of proportion. The negative campaign tactics are not coming from either candidate, they are coming from the uncaring media announcers who will do anything for a story.

In my opinion alone, this shows the complete state of our country in a nut-shell. Since when do good Americans find fault with any man who is simply trying to be a good father on Easter? I'm perplexed. Our country needs more good fathers, not less of them.

I wish all parents could spend a delightful vacation with families, us working class single people with children cannot afford a real vacation.

This just proved that "they" will pick on him and other candidates for anything under the sun. Who cares where he spends his Easter vacation? He has a right to go where ever he pleases as do any of us.

What kind of people are these? What was wrong in Obama going to VI? Somebody please tell me, I'm not American.

I was born in the VI...I wish I was there myself for Easter. All my Easter memories and traditions are situated there as they seemed to cease when I came to the States. ::sigh:: Kudos to you, Mr. Obama. Take a break and don't let this campaign make you old!

"Barack Obama is in the Virgin Islands on vacation. Should he be there?" My answer: It is no one's business but his own and who gives anyone the right to judge him? My understanding is he was combining business with pleasure while on vacation. (uncommitted delegates) After a year of rabid attacks on his character and reputation, he deserves a break and longer than 3 day vacation. I fully expect him to tell the US citizens, the press and the DNC to "take this job and shove it". He does not need this grief. I would not blame him for dropping out of the race, having learned that what he believes (the majority of Americans are decent people) is not true. Glad that he is strong and brave, standing up to all of this slander, death threats and defamation of character to himself, Michelle, his supporters and his church.
