Barack Obama's Mixed Heritage

Is Barack Obama viewed as a black person? You might be surprised on how many different opinions you get to this question. Obama may be considered black because of his father is black and also due to the color of his skin. Then again some may say he is just of African decent because his mother is white.

I am by no means a racist or care one way or another how a person is viewed. My personal experience with my friends and family is if you are part African American then you are considered black. My first cousin is mixed and looks like both his parents are black and my son is also mixed and looks like both his parents are white. My family considers them both to be black. I have no problem with this and it doesn't mean they don't have a white parent.

Some people think calling a mixed person black is discrediting the fact that one parent is white. To me that is not the case at all. I do believe that black is the most dominant race and if it is in ones blood then that is the most dominant race showing in your skin color.

When Barack Obama started running for President the black community automatically identified Obama as one of their own. I think it came natural just by looking at Obama you could tell he was black. Don't get me wrong I do think Obama represents so much more than just his skin color.

I believe he is a great man and a great American. When you mention Barack then you should associate him with his accomplishments and goals instead of his skin color.

"My President is black," is something you probably heard and seen even printed on t-shirts all over the United States. It has become popular and even recording artist Young Jeezy has a song with the same title. I think the black community is proud that someone with African decent has made it so far and holds so much power. I think they are proud to be black but also at the same time proud to be American.

Not all black people see things this way though. One of my African-American friends says on his Myspace page that, " My President is a half breed." He is kind of throwing jabs at the whole "my President is black" thing but he also is acknowledging that Barack is 50 percent white.

I guess it depends on who you are and your point of view on life and race to rather or not you have a black President. Either way be proud you have a President that is ready for change.
