Barack Obama's Secret Service Codename

Phillip White
The United States Secret Service's codename for President-elect Barack Obama has been revealed as "Renegade."

The White House Communications Agency traditionally assigns codenames to U.S. Presidents, Vice Presidents, their families, Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates and their spouses, and government and congressional officials.

Other prominent individuals have been given codenames as well, including Frank Sinatra (Napoleon), and Pope John Paul II (Halo).

During the run for the White House, John McCain's codename was Phoenix, his wife Cindy was Parasol. Sarah Palin was Denali, while her husband Todd was Driller.

Along with Obama's Renegade codename, the new first family get monikers as well. Michelle Obama is Renaissance, Malia is Radiance, and Sasha is Rosebud.

Vice president-elect Joe Biden is Celtic, his wife Jill is Capri.

The history of presidential codenames goes all the way back to the days of Dwight Eisenhower.
