Barbra Streisand was born in Brooklyn and entered a singing contest at the age of 18. She won the contest and went on to win an academy award for her film debut in the movie "Funny Girl" in 1968.
In 1983, Barbra Streisand made history as the first woman to produce, direct, write and star in "Yentil" and is a true living legend. Barbra admitted to Oprah Winfrey that she never intended to be a singer. She loves singing when it is just her and the music. "When I am recording with an orchestra, there is nobody judging."
Barbra Streisand was last interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in 1996. Barbra was dating, and then married, her husband of 12 years, James Brolin. Barbra considers her marriage a work in progress and thinks it is nice to have companionship. She does not like being alone.
Oprah Winfrey then surprised Barbra Streisand by showing clips of her past costars, including Jeff Bridges, Mandy Patinkin, Nick Nolte and Kris Kristofferson. Jeff Bridges remembered that she had a down-home side while Nick Nolte thought some of their scenes had gotten too real. Barbra agreed that it was a little too hot on the set at times.
Today, Barbra Streisand's perfect leading man, according to Oprah Winfrey, remains Robert Redford when they starred together in 1973's "The Way We Were."
Barbra Streisand's eyes filled with tears of joy up when her costar, Robert Redford entered the stage. The chemistry that was apparent in the film was still electrical on the set of the Oprah Winfrey Show. There were many times when Robert Redford or Barbra Streisand would reach out and physically touch the other and would often hold hands throughout the interview.
When Robert Redford prepared to leave before the end of the show, one of the most endearing moments of the show happened. As he hugged Barbra Streisand farewell, she whispered to him "I love you." And it was there for anyone to see. The respect between the two professional entertainers was never clearer than at the moment of their on-screen parting.
You did it again, Oprah.
