Bare Minerals Mineral Makeup Review

Nicole Lang
Do you hate the caked on feeling that most makeup leaves? Do you hate the feeling that your skin cannot breath? Do you want to have skin that is even-toned and doesn't appear greasy? Then it is possible that Bare Minerals mineral powder might be the perfect solution.

As someone who does not usually wear cover up for the very reason that my skin feels caked on, I decided to see if the claims about Bare Minerals were really true. My curiosity was peaked by my hairdresser who like me does not wear a lot of makeup. She was raving about her recent Bare Minerals purchase and how it is the perfect makeup for those of us who hate wearing any.

On a recent trip to the mall I stopped at Sephora and purchased the starter kit for $60. With this kit I got the following:

  • Two different shades (pick your overall light, medium or dark starter kit)
  • All over face color (similar to a bronzer)
  • Mineral Veil
  • 2 Face Brushes
  • 1 Concealer Brush
  • DVD
  • Primer

I am not going to lie, when I opened the box I thought this is a whole lot of makeup for someone who doesn't wear makeup. I read the instructions although I did not watch the DVD.

Probably the most difficult thing to understand about Bare Minerals is that honestly very small amounts work wonders. After applying a moisturizer, simply put a small amount on the face brush and work in a circular motion on your face. It is very tempting to either want to use a lot of powder (not a good idea nor is it necessary) or to apply simply by brushing on.

Doing as the instructions say however will give you exactly what the product promises...natural looking skin with even skin tones and without giving you a "caked on" makeup feeling. While the starter kit might seem like quite a bit of money to dish out it does last a long time and offers a few different shades. I was able to use mine in the winter and in the summer before I had to buy a new one.

For only $18 you can get a new, larger sized Bare Minerals foundation that will last for months. In my opinion, $18 every five to six months is much less expensive then trying out various foundations from a drugstore that do not work nearly as well or look nearly as natural.
