Barefoot Bandit Colton Harris-Moore: Bail Not Sought, Mother Missing

The Teenaged Criminal Known as the "Barefoot Bandit" Didn't Seek Bail at His First Court Appearance

The "Barefoot Bandit" is called such because he does not wear shoes when he is committing crimes (or at least that's how the story goes) Colton Harris-Moore has evaded the authorities in more than one country, and has stolen big-ticket items such as cars, boats, and even airplanes. Sometimes, he left behind chalk outlines of footprints as his calling card.

He was apprehended in the Bahamas, and brought back to the US. He faced a judge for the first time in Washington State. Authorities look at him as a significant "flight risk." Of course, we can joke all day about this statement being true because he is known for allegedly stealing and flying airplanes.

Harris-Moore is accused of perpetrating a crime spree of at least 80 crimes across various Western and Mid-Western states. Although the story could easily be romanticized such as the tale of Frank Abagnale, (Catch me if you Can), right now the situation is very serious.

If convicted, the "Barefoot Bandit' could receive up to 10 years in prison just for stealing the airplane that was crash-landed into the Bahamas. Considering that he's wanted for at least 80 crimes, this young man could be spending the rest of his life in jail.

Absent from the first hearing was his mother. I will never forget watching a live coverage on a news broadcast, and seeing his mother almost proud of her son for these crimes. She boasted of his intelligence, and his ability to fly a plane despite never having taken a flying lesson.

While it is great to be proud of your son, many people question his mother. Could it be that she was an enabler? Did she know where her son was the entire time he was circulating the globe on his crime sprees?

Still yet, as previously mentioned, there will likely become a time when this whole scenario will be romanticized and put into a movie. It's expected, and it will be an interesting story.
