1. Coverage - I am very fair so the whole world can see every blemish and every blush. I look for a foundation that not only covers up my red tones and blemishes, but also doesn't make me look like I'm wearing a gallon of caked on foundation. One of the most beneficial part of mineral foundations in general is its ability to cover and feel light at the same time. Both kits include two shades of foundation so you can mix and experiment, which is very nice. Sheer Cover includes two shades of a cream concealer meant to be used before the foundation to cover up especially bad spots. The concealer is like many other conealers I've used, so it wasn't Earth-shattering. The concealer lays under the mineral foundation well, and it feels pretty light. bareMinerals does not include a separate concealer, and it doesn't need one. The included concealer brush is used in the foundation itself and covers red spots well. Then you use the foundation brush and sweep the foundation all over. The idea of sweeping the same product all over your face is comforting as there is no risk of blending a shade of concealer that does not mix with a different shade of foundation. Both products covered up the redness on my face, but the concealer included with Sheer Cover is too much like cheaper products and could possibly not blend. bareMinerals wins this round.
2. Staying Power - It doesn't matter how makeup looks if it only lasts an hour. Under normal circumstances (running errands, work, etc.) bareMinerals definitely lasts longer. Sheer Cover simply does not keep my face from getting shiny after a couple hours. Under extreme circumstances, like a recent outdoor party I went to my last week of college, Sheer Cover fails at the first drop of sweat. Sadly I am red with visible blemishes in every picture. Under normal circumstances, bareMinerals has a lot of staying power. One of the best bareMinerals product is its Mineral Veil, a transparent finishing powder that absorbs oil throughout the day. If there is ever any shine, you just sweep on some of the Mineral Veil and keep going. It is very nice when plans are spontaneous and there is no time to redo makeup. I'm beginning to think that there is no such thing as a makeup that lasts through hot parties or high stress situations. bareMinerals doesn't really last in those situations, either. bareMinerals takes this round.
3. Brushes - Both kits include a set of makeup brushes advertised to be like professional artist brushes. Sheer Cover has a foundation brush, the small concealer brush (reminds me of a lipgloss brush), a travel foundation brush, and an eyeshadow brush. The foundation and concealer brushes are nice, but the foundation brush can be a little prickly on sensitive skin. The eyeshadow brush really stands out - it is so soft and smooth on my eyelids. I used the travel brush on a recent trip to D.C. It has a chamber to put foundation in and you are supposed to tap the foundation into the bristles. It's a great travel idea to keep everything contained, but frankly it didn't work. In the end I was left without the foundation since I left it at home. bareMinerals includes a foundation brush, the concealer brush, and the kabuki brush (basically a stiff blush brush). These brushes are so soft and smooth. While the eyeshadow brush from Sheer Cover is nice, the bareMinerals brushes obviously have a higher quality and reflect the higher price.
4. Extra Products - Every infomercial claims to include 'free gifts' to entice the consumer. bareMinerals includes a dvd with tips and a night treatment. Not too exciting. Sheer Cover includes a small compact of 3 highlighter samples for eyes, 3 for lips, and an eyeliner. There is the expected dvd of course, and a very cute sheer bag to keep the theme and hold the cosmetics you ordered. There is also a small bottle of the brand face wash and spf15 moisturizer. Sheer Cover wins this round.
5. Overall Results - For overall foundation results, bareMinerals wins the competition over Sheer Cover. bareMinerals includes a product called Warmth that adds that much needed sense of warmth to the complextion after foundation. It's not quite like blush, not quite a bronzer. The best way to describe it is the warmth gives the skin an alive look, instead of a one shade look that loses all sense of life in the face. Sheer Cover doesn't have a finishing powder either, so that's another strike against it. bareMinerals is twice as much as Sheer Cover in the tv offer, but I can honestly say that it is well worth the price. If you want a mineral foundation that can stay throughout your day and make your skin look alive, go for bareMinerals.

Post a Commenthi, i ordered sc after seeing it on tv. i got the medium kit. i have a dark circle issue so i always need a really amazing concealer. i liked sc but the concealer kept cracking and showing lines under my eyes but the min foundation powder was ok but it was a little too light for my skin i thought. i do not want to order the tan and waste more time waiting for another refund which i am doing for the medium one. i like the idea of going to a store like house of frasers or debenhams and get to try the product of bare minerals cannot wait at least i don't have to go through all the returning and refunds. then i am going to oreder the medium starter kit on the internet for 37.00 which is 45.00, which means you've got all your brushes and other stuff then all you ever need to do is just by the min foundation because you already have all brushes and concealer and the other things. i am looking forward to doing that after seeing all the reviews, thanks to all you guys.
I've used bare minerals bisque for many years. I have very fair skin and it worked great, but now I find for some reason they have changed it. I ordered Bisque and got Bisque 1B,which is way to dark for my fair skin. I've searched all over to find the one I use to have no problem finding so it looks like they changed the product and I guess are not worried about customers with fair skin anymore. Without the Bisque the product line is useless to me and find it sad that they would remove a product needed by so many. Will be finding a new line of make up.
I bought Sheer Cover from a tv ad for $29.95 for a 3 month supply. It was good makeup but the next shipment was for $92.00. I didn't know it was going to be so expensive. I cancelled my subscription and sent it back.
I have been using Bare Minerals since I was 16. I am now 22 years old. It is such a great makeup! It is light wieght but offers a full coverage. It never looks cakey & never leaves those dreadful makeup lines that so many women seem to have. One of my favorites is the 'bisque'. It acts as a concealer and will cover up your dark eye circles giving your eyes a pretty glow. I just recently spent over 100 dollars in some more BareMinerals products. It was a great deal concidering how much stuff I got! If I didn't LOVE this product there is no way I would spend that much money on it NOR would I take the time out of my day to recommend it to you! So speaking for young ladies looking for an all day, natural looking, long lasting makeup I highly recommend this to you! (:
don't even think of buying anything from sheercover just in case that you are not satisfied with the production they will keep charging you and to put that money back in your account it will take a life.... they told me you will have your money back in six week and now they keep saying they did not receive the production that i send it back with the prove from post office... they are not serious at all...
I have used both over the years, and recently ordered the SC from the Sunday morning TV ad. Please remember it is NOT 29.99 -- it is a total of $111. The first charges is 29.99, so check your invoice. The order is for a 3 month supply which means 3 payments. I like them both but think I may go back to BM for the price and convenience.
I have been using BE off and on for the last 5 years, I have had a hard time matching my skin tone, then I mixed the fair, with fairly light, a little mineral veil and original bisque. This is a lot of work to where foundation and the bisque is about the size of a 30 day supply of foundation. I don't like the well rested, it doesn't cover up my dark circles. The eyeshadow and eyeliner creeps down to below my eyes and I haven't cried or rubbed my eye. I have found that with a good moisterizer the BE will cover up my reddish cheeks. I have never tried SC and have thought about it, but I don't want all the "extras". I just want to try the foundation. So that is what turns me off of trying SC. But if someone wants to try a good concealer, try Mally. Also another type of mineral powder foundation(Smashbox halo, but bite the bullet and buy the bigger facepowder application brush, similiar to the longer handle buki brush from BE) to try that I like as much as BE, alittle better because
I have used both of these products and sent them back the bare minerals "bit" my face when I started to sweat, It felt like bee bites or ant bites all over my face I couldn't get it off fast enough. The sheer minerals felt like I had a lead bloon on and the bites were there just not as bad!!! being sensitive to alot of things I thought this would work I was wrong, I also have alot of wrinkles from light to deep on my face and it never looked smooth with these products
how do i order this product?
I have also tried both products. I tried BE several years ago and really didn't like it! However, I recently thought I'd give it another try, bought another starter kit, and really loved it! I think it had to do with the foundation shade I ordered the first time. I definitely agree with Lynn. BE wins overall but SC concealer is amazing! I have some pretty dark acne scars and that concealer covered them right up. The SC foundation however kind of made me look like I was wearing a mask. Not exactly caky...just not as natural looking. BE foundation has the opposite effect. It looks very very natural. The tone of my entire face blends right into the natural tone of my neck and chest. SO overall, BE is a little more effective to achieve the overall natural look, but I'd say I get better coverage (on the bad spots) with SC because of the darn concealer. One thing I can say though...SC kept sending and charging me for makeup after the first order. kind of a hassle but a call to CS stopped it.
