It starts with two.
Nose to nose.
We gather up behind our guy.
The other team behind theirs.
Nose to nose.
We gather up behind our guy.
The other team behind theirs.
Lining up.
Talkin' crazy shit.
Pool cues are flying.
Nowhere to run.
I'm on defense.
Thug comes up to me.
Swingin' a chain.
I smash his nose.
I'm down.
My heads bleeding.
GET UP, DAMMIT!!!
Shake it off, man!
That bottle hurt!
How's that chair feel, prick?
Take that!
(Jesus, was that one of MY guys?)
Kicking and punching.
Trying to escape.
I think about my woman.
Jail, hospital, or morgue?
My shirt is soaked.
With blood, sweat, and tears.
I think my ribs are broken.
HOLY SHIT, IT'S THE COPS!!!
We run like hell
Like roaches fleeing the kitchen light.
"Well, brothers, I guess we showed them!"
(Oh, GOD, I'm gettin' too old for this!)

Post a CommentToby Keith could relate to this one!! I've never been in a bar fight...was in a 'cat fight' once...or twice!
First hand, insightful, and absolutley hilarious!
LOL thank GOD I have never been in that kinda situation :) Cool poem
AMEN, Shanelle. That whole life is depressing, especially when mixed with repeated jukebox playings of "Tear in my Beer", and "Seven Spanish Angels".
I used to break up bar fights when I was a bouncer. I am so glad to be out of that scene. Seeing people get wasted and stupid all the time really depressed me.
Once again your choice of words seem to out flow most of todays poets. Keep up the great work and don't let "the man" suck the creative juices out of your poetic spirit.
this is so true... great job
Ouch! I felt the pain of that one! I liked this poem, and it made me feel like I was there!
great use of words!
you are a very good poet, and I like how this poem is different from all the rest!
That's why I outgrew them all those years ago; you know, back when I decided I wanted to LIVE!
Yep, bar fights are just like that. Not very pretty. Good descriptive phrases.
