Bargain Shopping in the Kansas City Area: Half of a Half Name Brand Clothing

Rebecca Hayes
I often saw this store as I was coming home from various activities and was always a little curious. So I finally stopped and went inside. At first the store can be slightly overwhelming. The store is bursting with racks filled with clothing. The greatest downside to this is that it takes a little bit of time to find what you are looking for, but it is well worth the time. The last time I was there I went looking for clothes for my son. He had a growth spurt and nothing fit him anymore, so I was essentially buying a completely new wardrobe. I was able to find everything from a jacket to pants and pajamas. Most of the pants and shirts were around $3, the jacket and pajamas were $6 a piece. I even found a few items that were only $1. I was able to get an entirely new wardrobe for my son for around $50! Now if that isn't wonderful I don't know what is; especially when you know that he'll probably only wear the clothes for a few months before he grows out of them again.

With the back to school season upon us, this is the perfect store to check into. Most of the clothes are name brand and you'll get a lot of bang for your buck. They also sell purses, belts, shoes and some household items. My husband is very hard on his shoes and belts. I don't know what exactly he does to them, but he usually needs new shoes and belts about every three months. We even tried going with higher end items that were supposedly able to last longer because they were made of better materials, but he wore those out in three months too. It was always so hard to pay the normal retail price for these items when I knew I would be doing it again in a few short months. Half of a Half has relieved me of those painful shopping moments. I was able to find my husband a belt for only $3 and shoes for $6!

The house wares section is somewhat hit and miss. Sometimes I find really great stuff, like a really nice bed in a bag set for more than 80% off the retail price, but other times I leave without finding what I am looking for. They also occasionally have toys, it just depends on what they got in that week.

Half of a Half is closed every Tuesday to add new stock to the store, I usually go in Wednesday mornings because I have found the best deals right after they restock.
