Bargain Shopping in the Kansas City Area: Tuesday Morning

While these stores may not be the flashiest stores around, they do have great deals if you are willing to take the time to sort through the items. It is somewhat like a glorified garage sale; every time you go you have no idea what you will find. The last time I stopped by I found a Fila backpack for more than 80% off retail. I got a brand name backpack for the same price as the no name brands at Wal-Mart, and I am sure it will last longer.

If you love a good deal, beware, because you could end up buying items you don't need because it was such a good deal. My suggestion is to go in with exactly what you are looking for in mind and try to stick to it as much as possible. You may come across a few items that would be perfect for someone's birthday, but don't buy something unless you know you'll use it.

I also love Tuesday Morning when I need to find wedding or baby gifts. If the couple or mom is registered at another store I usually look it up online (nearly all registries do this now) and then print it out and take it with me to Tuesday Morning. Often I can find identical items and pay much less. For example last spring a friend of mine was getting married. On her registry was a nice set of pots and pans and some other really nice cooking items. This friend had graduated from culinary school only a few months before her wedding, so I knew she would notice if she didn't get the brand she was looking for. I took the list with me to Tuesday Morning and crossed my fingers that there would be something suitable there. It was well worth the effort. I found the nice set of pots and pans and a few other utensils for well under its sticker price at the registered store. We were in a pinch for money so my husband definitely appreciated the one hundred dollars I saved on that purchase.

Tuesday Morning got that name because that is the day they have new stock in. So if you are really into bargain hunting it is easy to remember that you should show up every Tuesday morning to see the new items. On the flip side of that, they usually want to move old items out before new stock comes in, so Monday is most likely the best day to get drastically reduced items.
