In almost every town you'll find several of these thrift type stores under various names. For example in my town there's a Goodwill, Salvation Army and St. Vincent Depaul thrift stores.
I remember growing up people were almost ashamed to be seen going in or out of these stores. They would put on hats and sunglasses and zip in and out of the stores as quickly as possible to avoid being seen.
Those times have changed though it's now considered chic to be seen shopping in them these days.
The reason I shop at them though is for all the great bargains that they offer you. I have found many great buys over the years at these places.
Probably 30-40% of my house if filled with items bought at thrift stores.
Here are just a few examples of my bargain finds:
1- Palm PDA that was brand new still in the box. I paid $2.99 for it while the exact model was selling for $119.00 at the local electronics store.
2- I found an IBM computer for $1.99 that works great. It was all ready to go with a 56k modem. All I did was plug it in and it works fine for surfing the Internet. Similar models of used computers were selling in the local newspaper for between $100- $125.
3- I also have been able to find many computer related accessories like a scanner for $9.00, a webcam for $2.99,an all metal four tier computer cart on wheels for $19.00, and many computer games and software for between $3.00- $5.00 a piece.
4- I could go on and on with items like Playstation and Sega video game systems and games, colored glass, and Pez dispenser to name just a few more.
Don't get me wrong every time you visit one of these stores you might not find a great bargain, but if you're persistent the odds are that you will.
I usually find little bargains each week and the bigger bargains about once a month. The more you visit these stores the better your odds will be since they usually put out new stuff each day.
I only have been going once a week though and still have been able to find the bargains that I've listed.
If you're shopping for clothes you'll find bargains every day. I find that their clothes usually sell for about 25% of what they cost new and most times are in good condition.
So next time you're out shopping and pass by one of these thrift stores take the time to stop and go in because you won't be disappointed!
