Four Shugrue restaurants are located on the Island side, just steps away from the London Bridge. Next door to Barley Brother's is Shugrue's Restaurant and Bar, a higher priced upscale lunch and dinner house. Below Barley Brother's, on the lower level of the Island Mall is Makai Cafe, open for breakfast and lunch. And across the roadway is Javelina Cantina, a Mexican restaurant. Both Makai and Javelina are members of the same restaurant family.
Barley Brother's is a sports bar and brewery, offering pizza, chicken, steak, burgers, salads and specialty dishes. A favorite with many visitors to the brewery is the cheese fondue appetizer.
A glass greenhouse, dining room runs the length of the restaurant, providing a spectacular view of the Bridgewater Channel and the London Bridge. During the Annual Festival of Lights, and Boat Parade, Barley Brother's is a favorite spot for dining, which affords a first row seat of the events.
When the Barley Brother's Brewery first opened in 1997, they did not intend to offer traditional mass marketed bottled beer. Yet, that policy soon changed and they added brand name bottled beer to their menu.
Their Jennagrace Hefeweizen was a Bronze Medal Winner at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival, for Belgian and French style. It is an unfiltered blonde wheat beer with a hint of lemon. The next year the Kickstart Oatmeal Stout was a Silver Medal winner at the same event. Another medal winner is their Double Espresso Stout, which took the Bronze Medal at the 2004 Great American Beer Festival, and the Silver Medal the next year. Fresh espresso beans help make this Imperial stout.
If you are looking for a light beer, try the Barley Brother's Blonde Ale. For a medium bodied German Altbier it's the Beachballs Red Ale. This amber colored brew has hits of toffee and caramel. The Bighorn IPA is a hoppy flavored ale, copper colored, medium bodied, considered by the brewery to be a classic English Indian Pale Ale. If you are looking for a berry ale, the Trippleberry Wheat boasts cranberries, raspberries and blueberries. According to their website, it is a local favorite.
The brewery also offers seasonal beers, such as the Lakeside White, Nut Brown Ale, Summer Blues Lager, Destroyer IPA, Damn Strong Ale, and Monsoon Stout.
For customers who desire take out brew, half-gallon refillable growlers and one-gallon cubes are available. They also offer a full bar and cappuccino, along with their handcrafted micro-brews. According to its website, its brewing capacity is 3,500 barrels per year.
Barley Brother's Brewery and Grill is popular in the local business community, as well as with locals who wish to treat their visiting guests to a restaurant that offers both a first class view and an enjoyable dining experience. Barley Brother's address is 1425 McCulloch Blvd, Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
