Barnes and Noble Nook EReader Pros and Cons

Rich Jones
The Nook is an ereader device that was released by Barnes And Noble to compete against the Amazon's Kindle ereader. The Kindle is the most successful product available on Amazon.com according to their website and the Nook reader would have to offer some features that are not present on the Kindle in order to take a share of the very popular market. The good thing about the Kindle by Amazon is that the device has already been on the market for a while and this time has been used for improvement by Amazon to work on their device and provide improvements and additional versions, such as Kindle DX and the global wireless feature. Because my girlfriend loves to read and she enjoys ebooks I thought the Nook would be the perfect gift for her but I hoped it would be a lot better than other versions available on the market from Amazon or Sony.

What I love about the Nook is that it has a small touch screen on the device that allows you to flip through covers of the books on the device. You can switch books with a tap of the finger and this is a feature missing on Kindle. The Nook offers the ability to load images on the device and store them as screen savers. You can also use the nook to read PDF books that you downloaded from the Internet. You can store books that you obtained through Epub and the library and these options are not available on Kindle. You can side load books and put an SD card into the device for 2GB additional storage. This means you can take all of the ebooks you have collected over the years and load them on this device and not have to pay anything. The Kindle only accepts books that you buy through their store so this is a big advantage. Also, you can read books for free on Nook when you are at Barnes And Noble stores and this is a feature no other reader can match. You can also use the lending feature to lend a friend a book for two weeks and this is a feature that is unique to Nook.

However, the Nook is $280 after tax while Kindle is $259 and the Nook needs to be ordered about 2 months in advance so it will be late for my girlfriend's birthday and it does not include a case as the Kindle does.

I also got my nook before christmas and it also does not work. The device cannot remember where I was last so I have to scroll through page 1 to whereever I was last manually. It can take 25 minutes to start reading each time. And forget the bookmarks, they never work. Of course, their customer service acts like they have never heard of this issue, yet everyone I talk to who has a nook complains about the very same thing. If you have not received your nook yet, cancel the order and get a kindle.

The nook customer service stinks. I received my nook before xmas and it still isn't working. I need a new battery since the original was faulty and I am in email pergutory. I get through to someone, i am assured that I will get my new battery and then I start to get emails as if we have not had any communication or asking for my order number for the 100th time. Do NOt buy this product, go for the kindle
