Barney's Restaurant in the Village of West Alexandria, Ohio is one of these fine establishments. Family owned with its multi-optional menu, the Village of West Alexandria would not be the same without it. Whether you are in the mood for fish, chicken, hotdogs, or a Ruben, Barney's can and will accommodate. They will even consider suggestions for new ideas for their menu as well. This small restaurant located at the corner of St. Rt. 503 and St. Rt. 35 in the center of West Alexandria has an ever-changing Ice Cream menu, and a strong community involvement from which the larger food chains could learn a thing or two.
In the two years that I have lived back in the area, I have seen them expand their Ice Cream selection by adding another freezer with 16 additional flavors of ice cream, and instill a daily special option, my personal favorite, Philly Cheese Steak Tuesday. They have built an outdoor barbecue pit and hosted community cookouts. Sponsored Classic Car shows, Golf outings, Corn hole Tournaments, and made multiple donations to fundraisers that support the local Emergency Squad and their foundling cadet program.
Barney's has outdoor seating for those pleasant evenings where you can meet up with your neighbors and enjoy a shake and chat as you watch the sun set over the edge of town, where you can sit and wave at friends driving by. They also have a call ahead option if you would like to pick up your dinner on your way through town as you head home from a long day at work.
Barney's is proof that big things come in small packages. While the building is not much to look at from the outside, the inside is all heart. Much like the famed TV bar CHEERS, everybody knows your name, or will shortly because these wonderful people love to make new friends. It is the closeness that makes Barney's in West Alexandria what it is, Wonderful!

Post a CommentSence our opening on 2 December, 2006, Barney's Restaurant has promoted the idea of providing Quality "Take Out" at affordable prices with a homestyle attitude and the community responded and supported us without question. Unfortunatley, circumstances beyond our control namely the quality of our product/safety of our customers and the contract with the landloard has forced us to reconsider our continued operation under present conditions and determined that the West Alexandria community deserved better and anything less was unacceptable.
Rick & Kim Nusbaum as well as the whole Barney's gang would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire West Alex community for their continued support and we may still find common ground and Barney's will continue.
Sad to report that Barney's will be closing for good on Dec. 31, 2008 for unknown reasons. Sad to see an excellent small town resturant go by the wayside.
