An obvious play on "Sherlock Holmes," Sherlock Hooves brings Otis (the cow, and main character of the series) together with old friends in order to solve the case of the disappearing barn animals.
The story is, Otis has just woken up, and along with his trusty friend Pip (the mouse), they have together discovered that all of the other barnyard animals (their friends) have gone missing. Additionally, the farm is in a bit of disarray, and objects aren't quite where they belong. The player must explore the different areas in order to locate the scattered items and solve the mystery. In typical hidden object game style, a list of items to find are displayed at the bottom of the screen, and correctly locating them will allow the player to solve the mystery of their missing pals, and advance to another level (area).
During the search for the scattered object and clues, the player has the chance to earn achievements that appear as ribbons in the collectible gallery . These are awarded for a number of reasons such as finding and assembling broken objects, finding objects without using hints, and finding objects within a certain amount of time.
Not all objects are treated equal. This adds a additional level of gameplay. Not only will finding items allow the player to advance to the next area, some special items are automatically added to the players inventory for future use in a specific challenge. These are items such as a flashlight, and key, both which will help the player to gather other items or complete certain scenarios within an area.
Barnyard Sherlock Hooves is an entertaining game, however, most adults will agree that compared to other hidden object games, for them, the enjoyment will only last so long. On the other hand, the game is geared towards children after all, and they will certainly get a kick out of the fun of locating hidden objects while helping some well known characters along the way.
Barnyard Sherlock Hooves is available for the PC through online casual gaming sites, and is developed by Sarbakan Game Studio.
