Barrows Park doesn't have swings. This is its only downfall. However swings aren't neccessary in order to have fun. What makes this playground special is that the ground beneath the play structures is soft and almost foamlike which helps keep boos boos at bay when your child takes a fall. Located off of Barrows Rd. in Beaverton you may barely notice it as you drive by the surrounding townhomes, condos, and houses in the neighborhood. While it may seem tiny it is packed full of fun. There is a paved walking trail which gives you the opportunity to get a bit of excerise in while taking the kids out for some fun.
There are two different play structures as well as a separate pair of slides. This allows children both younger and older to have fun at the same place. The toddler play structure has a climbing slope to get onto the play structure, as well as a slide, a periscope, and more. While the older children have a play structure with monkey bars, slides, a periscope, steering wheels, a climb through tunnel, and other various things to keep them busy.
If you have a little furry friend the park is also friendly and caters to their needs. There is a water fountain for the kids and your dog to quench their thirst. The dog's fountain is at the bottom and you can press the button to fill it with water for your pooch. Any water they don't drink slowly drains waiting to be filled again.
A little further down the walking path there are stone structures shaped like animals for the kids to climb upon. There is a dragon, frog, turtle, and a fish which are all low to the ground to let even the little ones climb on and play. The ground is as soft and made as the same material as the playground floor. There are also two picnic benches nearby the older kids' play structure in case you want to bring some food. If you are in search of a lucky four leaf clover there are many different patches to look through alongside the walking path. There are grassy areas nearby for your little furry friend to eliminate but you will need to bring you own bag. There are bag stations at the playground but they have always been empty.
So if you are in search for something that is free and fun to do with your kids in the Beaverton and Tigard areas consider taking them to Barrows Park. They are sure to have fun!
