Barry is not exactly young as he is going to be 43 this year. His Home Run total since 2000 has sky rocketed at such a huge rate that there was speculation about steroids being involved. His total in the last 7 years according to ESPN stands at 306 Home Runs and counting. Major League Baseball would not be at fault for it but should it be found that it was actually steroids and he knew about it, the only thing that can be done however and it is stressed however is that a star would have to be put under his name for when he gets the record as it looks to be likely. It would be like going back and changing the result of a game that happened years ago, it would cause more confusion and possibly some problems.
With Barry however, he made his own choice and is accountable for his own actions. Nobody forced him to take the stuff he has been alleged to have done. The company that had supplied him with THG and stated he did not knowingly take steroids. Allegedly he was told it was arthritis crème and flaxseed oil. The company BALCO was charged with supplying them with that stuff but Bonds could at the most face perjury pending an investigation on whether or not he lied about his testimony in 2003. At this present time, no charges have been filed against him. If he did do it, to be honest, it was a bad choice for himself and has no one to blame but himself. That said, while it is not condoned that he did the stuff, what's done was done and baseball did not for a while do mandatory drug testing. That part will be on Baseball but the records should stand, just a star be added.
There isn't just that record being challenged. Another record is the runs record given how many runs he has scored, Bonds currently held by Ricky Henderson and also extra base hits, which is also held by Hank Aaron. He has 7 MVP awards, a record in baseball and perhaps any other sport. Alongside that, he within 98 hits to reach the 3,000 hit club. By the time his career ends, which is most likely after this season, he will probably have more Home Runs than anyone, be the only member still of the 500-500 club, 7 MVPs, close or breaking the all-time extra base hits record, does hold the record for the most walks of all-time with 2486 and counting, it will be regarded as a success. But the only question that truly remains is will the records be regarded as legit or will it as stated before a star placed due to the controversy that surrounds one Barry Bonds?
