According to a press release issued Monday night by the Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Campaign Committee, the former Congressman has endorsed Ron Paul in a video message. Dr. Paul was quoted as saying that he is "honored" to receive the endorsement, and that Goldwater's support has great significance for him. He also referred to the work by Goldwater Jr. and his family for the protection of "American values." Campaign spokesman Jesse Benton pointed out that Congressman Paul is the "only true conservative" running for president, and the only candidate who is "worthy to carry on the Goldwater legacy."
In the video endorsement, which lasted just over one minute, Goldwater Jr. expressed strong support for Congressman Paul. He referred to Paul as being among the "most honest and genuine men" he has met, pointing out that he had served with Dr. Paul while in Congress. He went on to speak about several of Ron Paul's positions on various issues, saying that Paul supports the idea of having "strong national defense", but is opposed to the United States being a "policeman" for the entire world. Goldwater, Jr. also referred to Paul's opposition to infringement upon privacy and high taxes. He finished by saying that he will vote for Ron Paul to be the next president, and urging viewers to do the same.
According to Wikipedia's entry on Barry Goldwater Jr., he served in the House of Representatives from mid-1969 until 1983, representing a district in California. He went on to work in the financial field, and later moved to Arizona. The biography on his web site indicates that he has received an "Achievement Award" provided by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, as well as a "Leadership Award" issued by the President's Commission on Employment of the Handicapped.
A page on Ron Paul's web site indicates that he has graduated from Duke University School of Medicine and Gettysburg College, worked as a medical doctor, served in the Air Force as a flight surgeon, and served in Congress for many years. He has opposed the Iraq War authorization and PATRIOT Act, as well as increases to the salary of Congress members and federal govt. restrictions on owning firearms.

Post a CommentI read the memoirs of Barry Goldwater, published in 1988 as I recall . . . an excellent book. He was a good friend of the Kennedys . . . so the comment by Wolfman Jack is one of those unfortunate comments that has no bearing in reality.
Barry Goldwater Sr. was a great man, his son is probably continuuing his legacy. Great endorsement
