Top Adult Contemporary Star Moves Popular Show Down the Strip

Romance music fans can now enjoy one of the genre's favorite performers under the Eiffel Tower without needing a passport.

Barry Manilow, Billboard's all-time top adult contemporary singer, will be moving his popular show down the strip in 2010, from the Las Vegas Hilton to Parisian. The singer made the announcement on his Web side late Wednesday. He is expected to talk about the move on a live appearance on the Today show Tuesday, Dec. 1. The first show is set for March 5.

Manilow is best known for a string of love songs in the late 70s and early 80s, including "Mandy," "Could It Be Magic" and "This One's For You." His biggest hits also include "I Write the Songs" and "Copacabana."

A limited number of items for the new show is already on sale through the Manilow store online. Judging from these items, the new show will be called "Manilow Paris Las Vegas." The show is also expected to center around the singer's ballads, along with his covers of other great love songs. His next album, due out on Valentine's Day, is called "The Greatest Love Songs of All Time." His current Vegas show is called "Ultimate Manilow" and is basically 90 minutes of the singer's own hits. The first three years of the show was called "Music and Passion," taken from a line in "Copacabana." That song rotated through his decade-centered albums.

Tickets and travel packages go on sale Dec. 1. Fan club members can purchase front-row seats and premium packages through the club's Web site beginning Tuesday. Members who had reserved platinum packages for cancelled performances in 2009 can reschedule those beginning on Monday. For more information on tickets, visit here. Prices are not available as of this writing, but prices for Manilow's Hilton show ranged from a low of $65 in the balcony to seats on stage for $250.

The price of platinum package tickets, which allow fans the chance to spend a few minutes with the singer at a reception before the show, are expected to be at least $1,000. This packages have always raised money for the Barry Manilow Fund for Health and Hope. In his Web message on Wednesady, Manilow said that these packages will now buy musical instruments for middle and high-school band students in the Las Vegas area.

Beginning in 2005, Manilow has seen a resurgence in his career. Along with opening at the Hilton with "Music and Passion," Manilow began releasing a series of albums featuring covers of the greatest songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. "The Greatest Songs from the Sixties" debuted as the No. 1 album on Billboard's Top 200 in 2007. That marked his first chart-topping album since "Barry Manilow Live" in 1977.

During his career, Manilow has sold over 75 million albums.
