Bartending Can Be a Great Job

Pouring the Colonel's Tea

Angelena Johns
I politely describe my job as pouring the Colonel's tea. I have every right to explain my labors that way. I work at a local Marine Corps Officers Club. We have a bar inside the club that is called The Santini Bar, it was given the name for obvious reasons, and to describe this place of business I would do so in the following fashion.

We have a portrait of Saddam Hussein that was taken out of his palace in the beginning of Desert Storm. This portrait is proudly hung on the wall, it has one little discrepancy and that is the Marines that took it and brought it home at some point decided to put a bullet hole right between his eyes. I like it!

Moving on further into this great establishment, you will see all sorts of insignia from all of the squadrons that are stationed here in Beaufort, SC. Wall to wall memoribialia. If you look up you will see a large helicopter blade that was taken from one of the Search and Rescue Helicopters before it was disbanded. We also have a lot of visitors. We have The F-5 Fighter pilots that come to our base several times a year, we also have the Top Gun pilots, we even have some from the British Airforce, boy those guys know how to have a great time, and just hearing them talk can be very entertaining.

Stumbling past the actual bar you can walk into another room that is wall to wall paintings, of insignia, comments on nights that were just so great we had to write about them on the walls, and in this room on the wall that serves as a stopping point, you will see three paintings, large mural of foreign third world leaders. The paintings are now in really bad shape. There is a wonderful explanation for this. We throw beer and wine bottles at it! It is a great way to get some frustrations out, or just show off if you have a great arm on you; I have to be honest about this I have seen more Officers Wives throw better than their husbands.

We also have a pool table that sits in this room that isn't really used for pool, there is a game the Marines play that I cannot tell you about, I will keep it where it belongs, but it is also very amusing to watch. Let us always hold dear and pray for those who serve their country. I will continue to serve those who serve our country.

Fun read, I enjoyed it, but not as much as watching you throw that shrimp net!
