Baseball Gloves for Young Boys

Just about all young boys enjoy the timeless tradition of playing baseball. Young and impressionable youngsters line the sidelines of professional baseball fields during every game, just hoping for a glimpse, a smile or an autograph from one of their idols. They dream of being on the field, of hitting the ball over The Wrigley Field stands for that much longed for home run. And they begin chasing that dream as soon as they're old enough to hold a glove on the fields at little league. Of course, it's the parents responsibility to make sure our kids are properly equipped to play the game.

When it comes to picking a baseball glove for our kids, it's a fairly simple chore if we just know what to look for when searching for that perfect glove.

Before you begin the process of choosing a glove, you need to consider what position your child is going to play, their size, level of play and how much experience they have on the field.

You also want to pay close attention to the features that various gloves have to offer.

Webbing is very important, as a choice between open and closed webbing can mean the difference in catching that ball thrown hard to first base or dropping it. When considering the webbing in a glove, your position should play a major role in determining your choice. A closed webbing is usually standard for catchers and pitchers. This makes it much easier for pitchers to hide the ball or reposition the ball when gearing up for another pitch. For catchers, a closed webbing makes it easier to insure that the ball stays within the glove during a strike out.
Pocket depth is another very important element to consider when choosing a glove. As well as whether the glove has an open or closed back. An open back allows for more adjustment and is easier for young hands to control.
First base gloves resemble catchers mitts because they are fingerless and are heavily padded to provide extra protection against those fast balls thrown hard to first base. This also allows for easier and much faster retrieving of the ball from the mitt.

Infield gloves are usually much smaller and lack depth, which makes throwing and retrieving the ball faster.
Outfielders gloves are larger and padded to give players that extra advantage when chasing after fly balls.

Some of the leading gloves used by the young people on my sons little league team, would be the Rawlings L5995B Lightning Series Youth Light Up Baseball Glove, this glove is for right hand throwers. It's comfortable and heavy duty enough to protect little hands and even has a Velcro adjustable strap. The best feature of this glove is that it lights up when they catch the ball and it even has an on off switch. This glove is a favorite among little boys and is a great value at only $17.99.

The Rawlings Derek Jeter Player Preferred Series Youth Baseball Glove is made of full grain leather especially for pitchers, infielders and outfielders. This glove is recommended for boys 8 to 11 but has other versions for the smaller boys. It's made with a higher grain of leather which means a more sturdy construction built for long hours of hard play. The design makes it easier to control and more comfortable.

The AllStar 31.50 Inch Young Pro Series catchers mitt is a great quality mitt for catchers. This is an excellent choice for a first glove. It's made of oil softened leather so it's easier to break in and control. This glove can be bought for $50.00 or less at athletic stores.

The Easten Z Flex Series ZFX10 youth glove is another wonderful glove for beginner players. This glove is soft and easy to use and it's patented Z flex technology improves the overall flexibility, which creates a lightweight glove that is easily conformed to little hands. And its walnut, pigskin leather is super light and comfortable. This glove can be purchased for $35.00 at local stores or online.
