Baseball Winter Meeting Updates

Baseball's annual Winter Meetings are filled with high expectations this year. The first notable deal that has just occurred was the Cabrera and Willis trade. Cabrera was getting the most attention this year as the Marlins were looking to deal him. The team that was looking to land him was the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. It seemed to be that it was a perfect fitting to see him in an Angel's uniform. The angels need to bring in another bat and the third base position is open. Hours ago MLB notified the world that the Marlins sent Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Detroit Tigers for OF Cameron Maybin, LHP Andrew Miller, C Mike Rabelo, RHP Eulogio de la Cruz, RHP Burke Badenhop, and RHP Dallas Trahern. This deal struck the baseball world in shock. This deal was not even seen coming. It was not known by many that the Tiger's were even in talks of a deal with the Marlin's. Most sports analysts believed Miguel would end up in either a Dodger or Angel uniform. Some baseball sources said the Angels pulled out of the hunt late last night. This forces the Angels to make another huge decision within the next two days.

Now that the Angels are out of big options to fill there offensive needs, expect them to continue looking over the next two days. They have a surplus of pitching and extra outfielders that can be dealt to receive a big bat in the lineup. The Angels will be looking to add at least one more player. It is not right for a team to retain starting major league talent. It has just been reported that the Braves are interested in Reggie Willits. No names have been surfaced yet. The Angels are also being linked to the Astro's Chris Burke.

The new number one fish on the market is Johan Santana. He has been linked to the Yankee's and the Red Sox. It's now believed the Yankees have backed out of the Santana race. Red Sox are clearly the leading. If Santana is to be dealt he will be in a Red Sox uniform. Though I believe he is more likely to stay in Minnesota for the time being. If Boston is to obtain him expect them to make another deep post season run if not win consecutive World Series.

Scot Rolen is said to be available for trade. The two teams leading the pack are the Angel's and the Dodgers. Both teams could use Rolen so expect his price to be high with both rival teams competing.
More Winter Meeting updates will be reported as soon as possible to keep everyone updated.
