Nick Mayer
From Lou Gehrig to Harmon Killebrew, here are baseball's top 10 first basemen to ever play the game.
1. Lou Gehrig - Lou Gehrig is one of the best baseball players of all time, let alone best first basemen. He led the New York Yankees for 17 years, all with the New York Yankees. His career batting average was an outstanding .340 average for his whole career. He even had one year where he batter .379. He ended his career with 493 home runs, which is very good for the time he played baseball.

2. Jimmie Foxx - Playing for the Red Sox and the Phillies for most of his 20 year career, Jimmie Foxx was easily one of the best first basemen of all time. He finished his career with 1922 RBI's. He also has a .325 batting average for his entire career.

3. Eddie Murray - Over his 21 year career, he accumulated quite an astonishing amount of statistics. He had over 3,200 hits, over 500 home runs, and over 1,900 RBI's. All of these numbers were taken into account when he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and was placed third on this list.

4. Albert Pujols - Albert Pujols is in an interesting situation. His statistics as of 2009, are 366 home runs, over 1,100 RBI's, and have a career batting average of .334; all of these statistics are not as gaudy as all of the rest of the players on this list, but Albert Pujols has only played in the Major League's for 8 years. He is on pace to easily have over 3,500 hits, over 2,000 RBI's and is on pace to break the record of home runs set by Barry Bonds. In the next 5 years, Pujols could easily be one of the best players to ever play the game of baseball.

5. Hank Greenberg - Though Hank Greenberg only played in the Major's for 13 years, he has put up some great stats for those years. He had over 330 home runs, over 1,250 RBI's, and had a career batting average of .313.

6. Ernie Banks - Ernie Banks was easily one of the best first basemen to ever play the sport. He hit 512 home runs over his 19 years of service. That is an average of 26 home runs each year! He also had over 2,500 hits during his career.

8. George Sisler - In his best days in St. Louis, George Sisler actually set the record for hits in one season. In 1920, he put up 257 hits. This was even more impressive because they didn't play the full 162 games George Sisler was easily one of the best players of his day and also was easily one of the best first basemen of all time.

9. Dan Brouthers - Brouthers had one of the best batting averages of all time during his 19 year career. His batting average ended at an outstanding .342. He was unarguably one of the best first basemen of his time.
