Basic Beginner Scrap Crochet Pattern: Funky Bangle Bracelet

You Can Make an Armload of These in One Afternoon!

If you want an easy, basic beginner project that can be made quickly, you're in the right place. You can make a cute bangle bracelet in less than an hour. There are only 3 rows (actually rounds) to complete, then some basic sewing. Better still, this is a project you can actually wear, show off, and make for your friends.

Are you in?

Funky Bangle Bracelet

Materials:

Size H crochet hook

10 yards scrap worsted weight yarn

plastic yarn needle

Stitches used:

Chain stitch, single crochet,

Abbreviations:

Ch = chain stitch

Sl st = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

Gauge:

3 rows sc by 3 sc = 1 inch

Directions:

Chain 30. Slip stitch to form a ring. Ch 1.

Round 1:

Sc in same stitch. Sc in each stitch across. Sl st in first sc of round. Ch 1.

Round 2:

Repeat Round 1.

Round3:

Sc in same stitch. Sc in each stitch across.

Leaving 24 inches of yarn to sew with, finish off with slip stitch in first sc of round.

Finishing:

Thread plastic yarn needle with the connected yarn.

Fold bangle in half with the right side showing so that last round worked meets the chain stitch ring.

Holding both sides together, sew through the chain stitch loop and through both loops of the single crochet stitches. (See pic 2 if you are unsure about this step.)

By tightening the thread slightly as you sew, you create the curved inside of the bangle.

Continue sewing around. Try on the bracelet before you finish off, so you can tighten or loosen your sewing if necessary.

Finish off, pulling loose yarn ends into the middle of the bangle. There's no need to weave them in! The final picture shows a finished bracelet.

Variations:

Add or subtract a few stitches from the foundation chain row to adjust the size of your bangle.

For a wider bracelet, add extra rounds by repeating round 1 before continuing to round 3.

For a more complex look, try working two different strands of yarn at the same time, or use different colors to make stripes. This is great for school colors, seasonal or holiday themed bangles, or use black and white for a mod look.

Different yarn materials and textures can make a funky bracelet look arty instead. Stringing beads and working them into the second row can add a cool accent. Embroidered designs will add a special touch, too.

  • This would be a fun project for girls!
It takes a tiny amount of yarn to make one of these bracelets. The ball of yarn shown fits neatly in the palm of my hand.

LOL, I just got a notification that you posted a write-up. Considering that today is the 18th and you posted this on the 11th I'd have to say that Yahoo Mail is getting as bad as our regular postal service. Nonetheless, a very interesting project, I wish I would have paid more attention when my grandmother was trying to teach me.
