Organized by America-Nepal Women's Association of Greater Washington, DC (ANWA), the Basic Free Medical Clinic (BFMC) commenced operations in 2007 to provide basic medical services at no cost to the uninsured Nepalese community residing in the Washington Metropolitan area and beyond.

The BFMC medical team is an all-volunteer effort from within the Nepali community coming from all walks of life. Basic medical services include medical care, social work and case management. Volunteers are actively involved with patients and their families inside and outside the clinic to promote continuity of care and services. Patients receive a variety of services and assistance, including basic medical services, blood pressure and blood sugar testing, medical consultations, low cost lab referrals, transportation to and from referral services, copies of medical records, preventive care, low cost medication referrals, among others.

BFMC makes a difference with the Nepali community in the DC metro area by addressing their many and varied health care needs. BFMC is a free medical service that targets an important underserved population in the Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia area.
