You can spend hours on end building the perfect website for your business. It may have eye-catching colors, an excellent layout and has an appealing product to the marketplace. However, if you are not getting traffic to your site, you just wasted your time and maybe even money. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, if done correcty will draw attention to people conducting web searches on sites such as Google and Yahoo. There are several basic techniques that you can use to increase traffic to your online blog, business or article.

Make sure you use the correct keywords or phrases. The keywords must relate to the topic of your website. Rememeber, that one of the keywords or phrases must be found in the title of your site. If you write oline articles, read through them and see which words and phrases are common in them. By repeating keywords throughout your articles, you are making you site more visible to the web searchers.

If you write online articles, make sure that you are posting articles on a regular basis. However, quality is the key when you submit an article. It is better to write three to four well-written articles a month, then multiple low-quality ones.

If you have several different websites, use crosslinks. These are links that you put on one site that will direct you to the other site. For example, if you have four websites, each site should have three crosslinks directing the traffic to the other sites.

Once you have built an SEO friendly website and traffic starts coming in, do not think that you are done. You need to update it on a regular basis. If you are not active on a site, the search engines will view it as an inactive site. Therefore, it will fall lower on the search ratings. These are a few ideas for updating:

1. Add a new product
2. Change the background to go along with the seasons or current month. Who would want to view a site that has a snow scene for the background in the middle of July?
3. Write a blog entry.
4. Write a review of a product.
5. If you write online articles, keep on writing. You need to constantly submit new and fresh content.
