Stair safety for parents with active toddlers is an important issue. Childproofing our homes altogether is a concern for parents with active toddlers. Stair safety is extremely important because of the possibility of serious injury. Many times us parents won't think about this when choosing our homes. The good thing is that there are a number of ways we can keep our active toddlers safe from a staircase related accident. Let's get right to it.

The most common and well-known stair safety tactic is the use of a safety gate. There are various safety gate's available today. Some are not meant for toddlers, but for pets. When purchasing a safety gate, make sure you've done some research or you at least ask questions to make sure you are purchasing the best possible safety gate for your situation. Nowadays safety gates have various types of locks and installations. So make sure you purchased one that will be sufficient for your home.

An important stair safety tip for active toddlers that is related to the safety gate, that is often overlooked, is that you want to make sure that it pulls open, and cannot be pushed open. If you're safety gate is designed for active toddlers it should already do this. However, make sure you double check. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Something else you can do with your safety gate that will help let you know when your active toddler is near it, is the use of monitors. Monitors can be used for more than just knowing when your active toddler has awakened from a nap. Most parents are doing other things around house while there toddlers are playing or sleeping. So if you are one of these kind of parents, this should help you out a bit. You could also put bells on your safety gate so that you will know when they are tampering with it.

Another good way to provide stair safety is to install a care rail. A care rail will help your active toddler get more comfortable with using the stairs. It will help them feel more safe and secure because it gives them their own handrail to hold onto. If they don't feel comfortable at first, work with them to show them that it is okay and they should catch on pretty fast.

Active toddlers will introduce themselves to the stairs if you do not. So make sure you take the time to introduce them to the staircase. When you introduce them to the staircase, stress with importance that is not a place for play. You will probably have to enforce this more than once, but be patient with them. They will get it eventually.

Another stair safety tip is to keep all objects off of your staircase. Active toddlers are curious, and when they see things sitting on the staircase such as shoes, a book, a phone, or anything, it will give them a reason to want to get on the stairs. So make sure you keep your staircase clear of all objects, at all times.

Prohibit your active toddler from playing anywhere near the staircase. Make sure you let them know verbally whenever you can remember, that the stairs are not somewhere that they can play around. Make sure you implement the use of consequences whenever they disobey this rule. That way they will relate trouble to the staircase, and hopefully not play around or on it.

One of the best stair safety tip for parents with active toddlers, is to keep your eye on them at all times. Toddlers will do things they are not supposed to do all the time. When they think we're not looking, they figure that they can go for it. So always pay attention to your active toddlers.

There are many things we can do to keep our homes stair safety for our active toddlers. The suggested stair safety tips are obviously not listed in any order of importance. Some toddlers are more advanced than others. Make sure you take the right precautions for your own situations. The worst thing we can do is nothing. In the act that you cannot afford a safety gate, a care rail, or any other form of childproofing for your stairs, make sure you do the things that are priceless, like giving your attention to your toddler at all times, and all in all everything should be fine.
